If your using bass jigs then I would match them to the crawdad population in the area. and use the matching trailer in a 3/8 oz size.
I've done this on several occasions and come a winner with some nice sized smallies as well as largemouths.
THere are some other colors that I find work well in slow times when little fish are biting. such as black and red, purple and blue, blue and black.
In a clear lake I have found that white with no trailer works well.

I have always been a proponet of a small copper spinner to catch bass. AND BIG BASS. Caught many of smallies on em at lake Erie.

Black and darker colors work well on the Upper Niagara river, and i also use white buzz baits for topwater fishing. They work great.
