You can find temporary filling material at your local drugstore. It has oil-of-cloves infused in the filling material that soothes the pulp, and helps reduce the pain. The filling material also helps insulate and protect the hole where the filling was. It is a little moist, you roll it into a small ball and push it into the hole, you then bite down gently before it sets up to adjust to your bite. Remove the excess and don't eat or drink for about an hour. I would not chew on this side as you don't want the temporary filling to come out. Take Tylenol or Advil for pain as directed.

Tylenol may help with the pain, but be careful not to exceed the recommended daily maximum as it can affect your liver. Distraction also helps with pain, so stay busy and focused on something other than how much it hurts! You might also want to call the dentist and explain that you are in pain and really need to be seen sooner. If they won't fit you in, look for a new dentist!

Personally, I would wait. It's not the end of the world when they fall out, you can take aspirin for the pain if it's not horrible. Avoid very hot or cold foods and don't chew with that side. It's going to cost you a lot more to go to the emergency dentist and the work may not be up to standard.

I have no idea how old you are, but when my husband did this he took 100 proof whiskey, filled his mouth with it and held it as long as he could. He said it burned really badly, but when he spit out the whiskey his tooth did not hurt and didn't anymore until he saw the dentist.
