1) It is the Law.
2) A school bus does not have the same amount of visibility as a passenger car which is why the driver opens the door.
3) A school bus does not have the same acceleration as a passenger car.
Maybe drivers education is in order.

You know...that's a good question. It's either a federal law or a state law (not sure which). I really don't know why that law is in effect either.
It certainly doesn't hurt anything by them doing that. I guess it only causes frustration to the drivers stuck behind them. If buses are supposed to do that, why aren't regular drivers supposed to as well?

2, they are carrying others the company is responsible for the life's of others and they must stop look and listen at all railroad crossings.

they don't have the same vision or reaction time as normal cars. you have to see the video of the bus getting hit by a train until you really understand.
