I went, and it was not a plate, it was a basket

I went to church. They pass the collection plate every Sunday, this one was no different. I didn't give because I haven't made any money since the last time I gave to God. It's not called "tipping" God. It's called giving. You have to give with a giving heart. If you don't give with a giving heart, it's as if you didn't give at all. It's something you have to do to understand. Hard to explain. You should give to God 10% of whatever you made since the last time you gave, if not more. Normally, I give more.

It's called a tithe, and 'tithe' means ten percent. That type of giving was originally commanded by God to support the Levitical tribe in their service to the Lord, so that they would not have to labor for food or money. The priests and high priests could then devote their time to all areas of spiritual service.
It is still a scriptural requirement, but it's the one (and only) area where God says to test Him, through our giving, that He may open the windows of heaven 'that we cannot contain' what He will pour out on us.
I always try to give with a good attitude, because, although I am giving my money to the church, I'm really giving back to God.
Being a cheerful giver has nothing to do with tithing, it has to do with what's called an 'offering'. The offering is any money outside of your tithe that the Lord prompts you to give, whether to benevolence, for blessing someone, or to other ministries.

Thought I'd be different and accepted an invitation to go to a Jehovah witness convention today almost 10000 people there was I pleasently suprised, no collections and they different even talk about giving money. All they did was discuss scriptures and some sort of paradise here on earth. Sounded nice

Yes, went to church, but missed the service as our power went out for an hour this morning. Got there only in time for Sunday School.
But yes the plate was passed as always.
Tip? I believe you are confused.

When I go to church on Sunday I give what I can, and learn what I can. Never took - though didn't have contribution a couple of times.

Yes, we pass the offering plate. That's my pay check as Pastor. Here is what God says about folks who refuse to pay their tithe...the Bible says in Malachi 3:8-10, In verse 8 it says: " Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But, ye say wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings." Verse 9, " Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation." Verse 10, " Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, If I will not open to you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."

Went to church. They do not pass a collection plate - feel that it is too public.
I give 10% off each paycheck (aprox 60-120/month)

Yes, we went to church and gave to the offering. My husband said something a while back that stuck with me. He said, "You wrote the check. I want to put it in the plate." It just showed me what a great attitude he has toward the offering. I hope my attitude is just as good.

I think God treasures love more than money.
What do they do with the collection plate anyway they probly spend it on renewing the church instead of giving to the poor or more important things.

Went to church, gave mostly willingly, gave about 1/2 hr.'s pay (enough that I'd miss it, but not a huge amount). They always pass the plate.
