He just turned 2 and has been potty training rather well since May (2nd birthday). All of a sudden, every once in awhile, he insists on peeing outside. I don't believe he's seen anyone else pee outside. One time he was playing outside in the sprinklers and I let him pee in the grass (he was nakey anyway). A couple of days ago he would NOT go in the bathroom and peed out in the backyard in the dirt (he did this twice). The next day, he insisted on peeing in the shower!!! And now it's back to the bathroom without any problem.

Has this happened to anyone else???

All my boys have peed outside at one time or another. Don't make an issue of it, just make sure its int he backyard...let him have some control over his bathroom ways and he will be happier. I"m sure its just a faze. and, its better than in his pants right?

One time recently, I was at Pizza Hut waiting for my order to be ready...and had my boys with me. So we're sitting outside, and I look over, and there is my 4 and a half year old peeing in the decorative planted pot!! I'm sure you can imagine my horror...but I just bit my lips and looked away so not to bust out laughing. When he was *done*, he came to me to tell me he watered the plant..and I told him that next time he wants to water the plant we'll get a bottled water from the truck. Then he just skipped away...it was then that I realized that to him, he didn't just pee in public, all he was doing was watering the plant.

He is just preparing for later in life when he becomes an adult. That's what men do, pee outside. Especially, after downing one to many. Or at the softball field. Men are just nasty like that.

Just thank your blessings, he isn't peeing in the house on the floor.

Seriously though, it's just a phase and he will outgrow it. Don't make a big deal out of it and just direct him to the bathroom when he does it. One day he will stop and then later on when he becomes and adult male, it will start again, right Tonymister, lol.

LOL...don't worry hun. I really think this is just "a guy thing" My 3 year old had never seen anyone pee outside either, but one day while we were sitting on the front porch, he ran down the stairs, pulled down his pants and peed in the front yard! I think it's just because it something different and little boys know that they can do it easier than girls. Don't worry,I think they all do it. Heck, my fiance would do it if he could get away with it! Kinda like the saying goes....boys will be boys :-)

I am potty training my son right now and he takes his diaper off and runs around the house naked and sometimes outside he takes his pull up off and pees .. I think at sometime during potty training all boys go pee outside i would not worry to much .....If you have any concerns talk to your peditrician they might be able to give you some suggestions I know boys are harder to train my son is 2 now and not fully trained yet but he takes his pull up off and knows when hes wet so I guess thats a start right

I have brothers. Boys, early on, discover the inconvienance of bathrooms. I mean think of it from this angle...he could stop what he's doing pee, and be done with it....or he has to completely stop what he's doing, go inside, go to the bathroom, pee, wash his hands, then he's back to playing.

Running water also can make small children invoulentarily pee, or have the feeling they need to pee and not have the muscles to control it yet.

it's normal. my oldest son is 5 now but since he was 2 he's been using a toilet whether it be a potty or a real one and one day he had to pee and we were at a place with no bathrooms so my husband took him into a woodsy area and told him to pee in the bushes. a few minutes later they came back and my husbnd told me that our son refused to pee in the woods. our son said "that's not a bathroom!" i think we ended up driving to a grocery store near by. it was so funny, but all kids are different.

lol,it's just a guy thing! .It's nothing to be concerned about unless he insists on doing it in a store or on a city street!I have 5 sons and they have all done the peeing outside thing, but we lived several miles from our nearest neighbor so there wasn't any fear of being seen. Just talk to him and tell him why he shouldn't pee outside. But if you bring too much attention to it,that will encourage him to continue doing it!

He's probably just curious...not to mention, boys, no matter what the age, just love peeing in strange places. Really it's true!! Anyway, remember your the parent so you make the rules, and always try telling and teaching him it's proper to go to the bathroom inside, using a toilet, unless there's no way to use a toilet!

Yes, I'm sure every little boy goes through that. Just encourage the right place to go pee. He's fine.
