Best? At a certain point, the differences are so negligible that it is hard to chose, but The World Airline Awards chose British Airways, which has so much luxury in the business and first classes that I won't be surprised if you never want to fly United or other airlines again. Their international buisness has a seat which turns into a bed, champaign with your meal, and hours of on-demand entertainment. However, other luxury airlines give British Airways a run for its money. Emirates Airlines gives you your own private minibar and a DOOR which allows you to spend your time in your own private "suite."
Richest? In the U.S, Southwest Airlines has the most revenue. Internationally, I remember seeing Singapore Airlines as number #1 in terms of revenue, but that might have changed due to various factors. Looking at the source below, though, I'd have to say Singapore Airlines.

Well, I travel pretty infrequently, but once I was on British airlines, flying from Boston to London, and I have never had a better plane experience. The food was actually very good, there was plenty of it, the seats were comfy, and the attendants were, well attentive. The movies were even good! I saw Shawshank Redemption on that flight. I highly recommend it for all international flights!
The worst plane trip I have ever been on was AirFrance (who works with Delta stateside, so I would stay away from Delta as well). The seats were awful, I was on a ten hour flight and by the time I got off I was aching all over. The plane was also dirty, like they hadn't come through and swept or picked up trash at all since the last flight the plane made. The movies were awful, picture ten hours on a plane with nothing but the Alfie remake and Mean Girls. They lost my aunt's luggage for four days (on a ten-day vacation!) on our way to our vacation, and kept lying to her about when the luggage was coming, and on the way home they lost my luggage for four days.

Emirates and Singapore seem to fit both criteria.
Emirates Group's unit - Emirates, made a profit of USD674million in FY2005.
Singapore is running behind Emirates.
One could probably say they're the best airline/s too.

...With wealth in mind...
Canada - Air Canada
USA - American Airlines
Britain - British Airways
Japan - Japan Air Lines
Holland - KLM
France - Air France
Australia - Quantas
As for best airlines, you'll have to find that out for yourself. :-)
Enjoy your flight!
