My Scooter is Ferrell. My neighbor brought him home from a construction site but let him loose. He was approx 7 wks old. I heard him crying outside and when I approached him he didn't run away. He took a few steps toward me and i grabbed him and brought him home. He was in horrific shape; skin and bones, dirty. He had been mangled or beaten. His leg was dislocated. I took him to the Vet, hoping they would keep him, already with 2 of my own, but I ended up taking him home after they gave him his first shots. I bottle fed him kitten milk the first few days. He was so loving and would cry at my feet, since he was too weak to jump, so I would pick him up and lay him on my lap where he would fall asleep Then around 2 wks ago, Scooter now approx 11 wks old, I gave him and my other kitten, Pixie, their first bath. Now he is petrified of me. When I pick him up to love on him he resists and does everything to get away. What happened? Pixie is still the same as before. What can i do??

Pixie is only around 2 wks older than Scooter. But I've had Pixie since day 1. I saw her being born. I have had Scooter around 4 wks now, and gave his his bath 2 wks after I had him. This was 2 wks ago. Pixie had never been around the water till then. Not sure if Scooter had in the first 6 or 7 wks before I found him. I know Cats hate baths. I didn't want to but after 2 wks, he still had an area around his neck that was making his fur, hard and stiff. He seemed unsuccessful in licking it clean. But, before the bath, he did not act like your typical feral cat would. He actually seemed pretty tamed. He was affectionate and welcomed me and his new home right from the start. . By the time I gave his his bath, he wasn't limping too much, and was starting to run and play wrestling with Pixie. And today, it looks completely healed. But the nightmare still lingers in his head and me being the monster in that nightmare just breaks my heart.

just let him be for a little while. And slowly go near him. Don't be as close to him don't pick him up, or let him fall asleep on your lap for a while. Just relax, sooner or later he will get better. He's just probably afraid if he was abused when he was younger. Or maybe something happened to him with water and also cats really don't like water. So take it step by step until he's normal again.

The bath must have been a horrible experience for him and it probably takes some time till he'll trust you again. Just be patient, as soon as he realizes you don't hurt him or something he'll probably be the same again. But maybe better don't give him a bath again if it isn't absolutely necessary.

well scooter was probaly abanded so i wouldn't press my luck with him. and not all cats like baths i have 2 cats and one of my cats loves taking baths. and since you only had him for 2 weeks he still needs some time to get comfortable with his new home.so since you want him to stop resisting to get away from you then you can try to give him some treats and maybe try not to pick him up as much until he goes back to normal.

Being a ferrel kitten he is already on the "wild" side. Luckily you got him early & have taken good care of him. Most kittens/cats DO NOT LIKE BATHS ! Just give him space & time & I'm sure he will come around. Don't push him, take your time.
Good luck !

U NEVER EVER GIVE A CAT A BATH. They lick themselves to clean themselves so u don't need to give them a bath. Only a very few cats like a bath (though I don't know why). He probably is afraid of u, because u gave him a bath. It might take some time for u to gain his trust again. Just remmember next time don't give your cat a bath!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Give him time. I give my cat a bath from time to time. She hates them but my husband is allergic and the bath keeps the dander down. My cat will avoid me completely for the first day after the bath but by the second, she realizes that I feed her and keep her warm.

First, it is FERAL. Since the kitten is feral, it is not suprising that it is freaked out by the bath. It may take a LONG time for him to trust you again!!!!!!

IF he ever trusts you again, don't
ever bathe him. You can buy a good spray cleaner for dogs and cats. Spray a cloth or a glove and wipe him down with it.

Not all cats like baths, mine doesn't like bodies of water bigger than his water bowl. Give him time, he's had a little shock. Be patient.
