LOL Good One. But I'll try to answer by putting my self in their shoes. If I was about to fly with the intention of crashing the plane, I would feel more secure on some level by having something hugging my head, although conciously I know that I'm about to kill myself. I would feel more secure.
Also they weren't always Kamikaze. They had probably been flying many missions for years (without the intention of crashing the plane) with helmets and it might be something they were just used to.

This comes up periodically. The answer always seems to be some combination of: first, the radio gear is built into the leather helmet they wear, and second, that that was standard pilot outfit, kamikazi or no, and finally, they wnated to survive until they got to the target.

Helmet wasn't really a helmet...but a soft leather skull cap that contained the headphone speakers and mic assembly. Dispite their one-way mission...comms with the battle group they launched from was important.

to protect their heads from the knocking ardound to the plane caused by the murderous anti aircraft fire

anyway those armourless kamikaze planes couldnt stand up to a 50 calibre bullet or 20mm cannon shell should one puncture the flimsy planes

So they had a head to bury..similar to motorcyclists...
and because they were dumb enough to be Kamikaze pilots.
I also heard that they sometimes nailed the cockpit shut..hmm.

Audio gear was wired into the helmet, I think. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to hear their commanders.

I never get tired of this question. It's as good as "Why don't they make the plane out of the same stuff as the black box".
