I know this is the stereotypical response to your question, but yes, don't cut it, don't overstyle it (that will cause breakage which will eventually end in split ends and nappy-ness), and always trim up every 4-6 weeks (the tiniest bit - the reason behind this is, when your hairs start to split, and yes, they eventually will unless you live in a dark cave, when your hair grows, the split starts to get longer and longer as your hair does...thats why its always a good idea to clip off all the "dead stuff" to prevent any more breakage than you'll get anyway).
There are many products out there that claim to help hair grow faster but they are just thick conditioners.....none has been proven to grow hair any faster than if you just left it alone. African-Americans have an especially hard time getting hair to grow because of perms and chemicals they receive to straighten and style hair....if you can help it, try to style your hair with little products as possible, so you are not clogging your hair folicles. Good luck on your new do!

Proper diet, rest, exercise and nutrition. Or All of what others ABOVE stated about herbs and vitamins & stuff, as well, of course!

However, stress, hormones, medication and other factors can inhibit hair growth!

Of course, if you have done all this, see a Doctor for referral to appropriate specialist if he determines it may be a sign of something that needs investigation.

My hair is great thanks to the combo of. Irish, even native american, and other things but it still took it up until the last 5 years of my life to grow to the length that I wanted it to.

Try taking Biotin and some multi vitamins or even prenatal vitamins( but they are not needed) and apply some Doo-Gro oil in the bottle(about 5$ at wal-mart) to your hair and scalp. You should see results in about 3-6 months.

nothing makes your hair grow faster. Protien doesn't work cause your hair is made out of dead cells. Believe me, I tried eating a lot of protien and nothing happend.

I hear that soy milk works, and I have a few friends who drink a lot of it for that reason.
