I went through this a couple of months ago myself. If it is his gall bladder, then it will require a fairly routine surgery, most commonly done laproscopically through four small incisions on the stomach region and one through the belly button. It doesn't even require stitches, just bandages for a few days. Try not to worry yourself too much, this is a very routine surgery with very little recovery time need. I went back to work 1 week later. Best wishes to you and your father, along with my prayers!

Sophie - first of all don't worry. I know it's easier said than done, but worry will not help your dad. Please read the website I gave for some good information. Now, on a personal note - I was suffering with great abdominal pains a couple of year ago. I was up on my knees rocking back and forth and crying like a baby. It's worse than any pain I have ever had. I went to emergency and they kept me. I didn't have 'stones' which is what usually causes the pain, but the gall bladder was not functioning the way it should. I understand it's an organ we need to help eliminate some kinds of foods, but you can survive without one. After numerous tests, they put me under and performed laser surgery. For a while, I was fine - but when I tried to eat "fried foods, hot sauce, any spicy foods, alcohol - THEN I realized just what that little sucker was there for. Nothing to catch the grease and hot stuff - so I had to eliminate it from my diet. Every now and then I mess up and when I do - I have to go back to the hospital because there is NO over the counter medicine to stop that kind of pain - morphine was my friend for weeks. Your dad will be okay. Just help him watch his diet and stress levels and love him to life!

I would get that checked out immediately by a physician.I had this and let me tell you, it is extremely painful. When they run the tests they will determine if the gall bladder has a sandy material or stones. Then they will tell you that you will need laproscopic procedure.4 tiny incisions for the instruments. And they remove the gall bladder which is about the size of a balloon, under anestetic of course. In 1 and a half hours ,your back in the recovery room. You will be able to eat anything you want but be fore warned.Anything with oils like fried foods, ice cream etc. will cause you to have explosive diahrea.Don't take my word for .Ask the Dr. But it is so.Hope this helps you.Good luck to you.

If your gall bladder is tended to then your dad should have no probs. gall bladder surgery is fairly simple and the person is usually home the same day or the next with a couple of very small incisions. Not tending to a "sick" gall bladder can make you very ill and will most certainly cause a lot of pain and discomfort to say the least.

If it is his gall bladder, I had emergency gall bladder surgery and all went just fine. They make a small incisions and pop that sucker right outta there. If the pain was in his upper right side, more than likely he has gall stones................ Good luck to you!

If it is gallbladder, he will probably have surgery to remove it. It can be done with just a couple of small incisions. After he recovers, he shouldn't have any lasting effects. It could also be problems with his heart or his stomach. Don't worry. It will be a long wait until you find out but have faith.

Honey, don't worry. The gall bladder can be removed, if need be. Your father can live without his gall bladder, be careful of what he eat, because of digestion.surgery is easier today, i will pray for him, for fast and speedy recovering. try not to worry so much..love and prayer for you and family.

Gall bladder, appendix, could be many things. And yes they could be life threatening... but I'm sure he will be fine.

I hope that he is okay. I hope that you are okay.
