It has been well documented that the popes are not, in fact, infallible when sitting on the mythical 'holy see'.

IE> the declaration that the earth WAS flat.
the declaration that the EARTH was the center of the universe

Where did this heresy come from?
Who invented the idea of the 'holy see' anyway?

The Roman Empire invented the idea that the pope was infallible. That idea originated with the idea that a Caesar was infallible and appointed by God.

English royalty also adopted that idea. King James considered himself to have been appointed by God and God's spokesman on earth.

It's not a unique idea, men have always sought to play Gods.

Sweetie, the Pope is only infallible on matters of religion, which neither of your examples are about. In other words, the Pope may tell you that it won't rain today, but that doesn't mean he actually knows if it won't. The last time the Pope (the Holy See is the same) used his infallibility was around 1856 when he declared that Mary, the Mother of Jesus was born without original sin, the Immaculate Conception. So, relax.

The Catholic Church teaches that the Pope is infallible at closely defined times.

The Pope is only infallible when he, in union with the body of bishops, solemnly teaches that a religious doctrine as true.

This comes from the words of Jesus to Peter (the first Pope) and the Apostles (the first bishops), "Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven" (Matthew 18:18) and "He who hears you hears me" (Luke 10:16).

Whether the Earth is flat or not is not religious doctrine.

With love in Christ.

Sweetheart you are confused we Catholics do not believe everything he says is infallible. We believe that when he speaks on matters of doctrine and faith that the Holy Spirit guides him and will not permit mistakes. He is human and therefor subject to personal opinions and weaknesses. There are strict guidelines as to what he can change, do and speak about and how to go about it. Nothing serious is spoken or taken lightly all matters must be prayed for and about to see if it is the will of God.

If one is a Catholic, part of the faith is to believe that the pope is God. With the evidence you have placed on here, that claim would also be a heresy!

"Against this background of love towards Holy Church, 'the pillar and bulwark of the truth' (1 Tim 3:15), we readily understand the devotion of Saint Francis of Assisi for 'the Lord Pope', the daughterly outspokenness of Saint Catherine of Siena towards the one whom she called 'sweet Christ on earth'" (Pope John Paul II, Apostolic Exhortation VITA CONSECRATA, (On The Consecrated Life And Its Mission In The Church And In The World), March 25, 1996.)

"The Pope is of so great dignity, and so exalted that he is not a mere man, but as it were God. and the vicar of God." (Ferraris Ecclesiastical dictionary)

"All names which in the Scriptures are applied to Christ, by virtue of which it is established that He is over the church, all the same names are applied to the Pope." (On the Authority of the Councils, book 2, chapter 17)

"The Pope and God are the same, so he has all power in Heaven and earth." (Pope Pius V, quoted in Barclay, Chapter XXVII, p. 218, "Cities Petrus Bertanous")

"The Pope takes the place of Jesus Christ on earth...by divine right the Pope has supreme and full power in faith, in morals over each and every pastor and his flock. He is the true vicar, the head of the entire church, the father and teacher of all Christians. He is the infallible ruler, the founder of dogmas, the author of and the judge of councils; the universal ruler of truth, the arbiter of the world, the supreme judge of heaven and earth, the judge of all, being judged by no one, God himself on earth." (Quoted in the New York Catechism)

""To believe that our Lord God the Pope has not the power to decree as he is decreed, is to be deemed heretical." (the Gloss "Extravagantes" o.f Pope John XXII *** inter, Tit. XIV, Cap. IV. Ad Callem Sexti Decretalium, Paris, 1685)

Scary huh?

I was once a Catholic. I had many doubts about the doctrine which my fellow Catholics could not defend logically when I questioned it. I came to believe that all that religious "mumbojumbo" is all a creation of men. Men who twisted and corrupted things to suit their agendas. It's all a big scam. I do believe in God though, but no mortal can know God. If anybody says he does because of a book written by men and "inspired by God".....run!

it should be obvious to people that nobody is infallible, including the pope. This is the perverting of the true doctrine by the catholic church, who the Bible says will be the anti-Christ in the latter days before Christ returns.

Heresy schmeresy. The real crime is sitting on top of all that money instead of feeding the poor with it.
