I haven't ever been in this situation where someone I'm starting to care about is having to leave for IRAQ and I don't know what to say about it or how to make things the best they can be. I'm a fixer and i don't know what to do.

I'm a military brat and ex-wife. Send LOTS of packeages and letters while they are gone. Nothing you can do to keep them from going. Just don't forget them.

Be there for him and let him know you care. Find out if he would like to continue this relationship through the deployment. Send packages, mail etc. Stay in contact via e-mail and IM. Be supportive. If this is the person's first time to go, chances are he's a bit worried. Reassure him, but don't be unrealistic.
It was scary for me when my husband went, but we got through it and now he's back home with us. Believe me the time leading up to the deployment seems the worst.
Best of luck to both of you.

Pray a lot. Tell them to be careful and come home safely. Tell them if they hear gun fire hit the ground. Don't try to be a hero. Tell them to take a computer with him so you can keep in touch and send him a little bit of home to him everyday.

Do lots of praying...lots of writing/emailing...send care packages...never give them a reason to be concerned about how you are handling things at home...don't argue with them when you get those few precious moments of contact. Most importantly...stand beside them...strongly...proudly!

whatever branch they are in, I can guarantee there is a community of other supporters just like you to help you through it!

Good luck!

There's nothing you can do to stop him from going. Write letters to him as often as possible. If you love him, say so. If not, don't, but write him letters. And remind him that he can't do a year's worth of living in a few weeks, because he's going to want to try.

Let that person know that you are there for them and that you will write as soon as you get their address.....Tell them you will keep them up to date on current events in home town(always be upbeat with the mail you send).
Remind that person that when they get back you will all have a big party!!!!!!!!!!!!
