- Tell him that you're talking to other dealers and Dealer X has promised you $1000 less that what your dealer is offering. Negotiate that amount down to $500 then if he resists. If he doesnt agree...walk away.
- Tell him that he could pass on some of the benefits that he gets from the manufacturer (Toyota, Nissan or any other car manufacturer...) like dealer rollback, annual manufacturer rebate ( the dealer gets an annual rebate of 3%)
- Ask him for a super-fancy upgrade at the price he's offering you, if he disagrees then ask him for $500 less and that you'll buy it right away. If he says that he'll include that superfancy upgrade with the price he's quoted you, then call his bluff and say after a while that you'd changed your mind and you dont want the upgarde and if he could reduce the amount by $500 to a $1000.
- Tell him that you need a break and that he has to give you a great price. Request him to reduce it. most dealers have good margins and wont mind reducing the originally quoted price by atleast $500 - $1000.
- Dont listen to BS he'll tell you about the price changing in the future. He bought the car he's selling you at a fixed price based on an annual contract from the manufacturer that he signed at the beginning of the year. Ignore the comment and press for a reduction. If he doesnt budge, walk away.

Good luck!!

It depends on what the dealer has in a profit margin, and the desirability of the vehicle. If it is a popular car, and the dealer knows that they can sell it quickly, they have less incentive to cut the price. Without knowing what car (new or used) and what price you are talking about, I can not tell you if the price you are trying to get is even reasonable!

take a copy on consumer reports with you when you go car shopping. DO NOT TELL THEM HOW MUCH YOU ARE WILLING TO SPEND OR CAN AFFORD!!!! Next you have to do some dealing with them. Try to get them down to the price you want, and if they dont go that low then YOU MUST WALK AWAY! Dont be afraid. Also, if you do get the price, know your credit score and shop around for car loans from credit unions and what not to get a better deal on interest.

In order to bargain, you must be willing to walk away from the deal. Tell the dealer what your absolute top dollar for the car is and leave. If he lowers his price to meet your offer, then fine. If not, find another car and another dealer.
But you have to be willing to walk.

Ask them to give you a higher price on your trade in or go to another dealer and have them bid it out with your original dealer.

Tell him or her that you'd like to look at some cars at some other dealers.
If the deal is as good as it should be, you'll come back.

For better or worse, there is no stronger bargaining technique than leaving
the table!

offer them 500 lower, say take it or leave it, its 500 bucks, a dealership will haggle that, so if they dont catch within 20 mintues of your offer go to the next dealership

Ask. Maybe they'll do it. It depends on demand for the car and how much they feel the need to sell.
