Yes. The person misinterpreted it, so it ended up being awkward and embarrassing

Yes and no. I never regret trying, I sometimes regret the outcome.
Example:
I was grocery shopping and these parents were letting a little kind run around fairly unsupervised in loose fitting shoes. As expected, a shoe came off and the little toddler took a header into a gallon jug of bottled water. The mother picked the kid up and was hugging and kissing it. the father stood there stairing at the pair. The child's shoe was in the aisle. My wife walked over and picked it up to help the mother, since, the father was too busy in his own world. The ady snatched the shoe out of my wife's hand and said something snotty like, "I am trying to take care of my baby here."
We just walked away.

When I lived in Stockholm my friends and I all chipped in to give a guy money for a train ticket. He gave us a sad story about being away from home, not having money because he bought cigarettes for his mother, etc.
Two weeks later I ran into the same guy who told me the same story. I was sooo livid. I guess I don't really regret giving the guy money - I mean, it wasn't a huge loss or anything - but I remember being really, really angry at the time.

It is best that when you do something kind you do it without expecting anything back for it...that way you will have done it for yourself and therefore not have to regret it.

Unfortunately , lots of times,
My parents raised me to be a good christian and believe the best in everyone....boy did I get beat up and screwed over the minuite I move out of the house.....they did me no favor.
I'm not bitter abuot it anymore but I;'m raising my kids to be a bit more worldly and, yes indeed , there is evil in the world.

Yes, I've been kind to many people over the years and some of them started taking it for granted. They then wanted even more and would ask me to do things e.g. drive them around more and more to the point it got to be a nuisance.

I agree with "Surething". Thankfully I've never done anything kind that made me regret it.
I do regret not being kind when someone truly needed it though.

yes, they say the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
this coworker had a visiter and she called that her plane came in. i posted it on the message board and he was mad as hell, as he was having an affair and thought i put it out in the open to embarrass him.
while this was understandable, in my experience, if someone doesn't like you, your actions will always be interpreted in the worst possible way. so it's better to leave them alone, untill a better relationship is established. anger often says more about the ungrateful person than about yourself.

No need to go into details.
