Islam is not rigid. Its most liberal relilgion. We can't change the Qur'an and the God commands that sure is unalterable. Qur'an is applicable regardless of region, culture and time.

It's gotten bad publicity because of the media and so forth. I have a Muslim friends. One of them, a girl, she's conservative enough but not extreme or rigid
Actually, I felt the same way about rigidness etc...until I saw a Jordanian TV channel and saw the singer Haifa, she is not covered up, no one was and I was shocked to see how liberal they were, it changed my mind. Of course, there are the fundamentalist who are very strict, just like in every religion.

For the same reason that the Bible was, as a mind-control tool to control the masses. Works pretty good, don't it?

There is a spectrum amongst the Muslim community.
I PERSONALLY feel getting to heaven can't be easy -- it does take sacrifices.
