yes unless you have a hotmail account (includes msn) because Windows Messanger is a msn messanger. but if you have a yahoo or aol yes you do have to download something

im assuming your talking about yahoo..........yes there is a software download for yahoo messinger, you can find it at yahoo.com. Look at the top of the page and you will see a smile face (eomoticon) and underneath it says messinger, click and set up an account. Have fun!

yes because this is what makes it work. However if your concern is to have one program to run all your messaging needs (ie yahoo, msn, aol, etc.) then you should look at Trilian. It supports multiple formats and allows you to log into all your messengers with only one program.
