I'm doing a college project on peoples use of sites such as this one and what benefits they give people.Is it a way of killing dead time? Is it the ability to earn points and status? Is it the ability to interact with other people? Is it an alternative to chat / forums / blogs? Would love to hear what people think.

i think people use this site for various reasons. although not all use it for what it is meant for. i found that a lot of people are just after points. some are on here to simply kill time, and others use it to play pranks and jokes. but there are a few people who actually have real questions that need answering, and are looking for a heartfelt answer, or a virtual pat on the back.

It is entertaining to interact and speaks to the social nature of people. People also like feeling that they have something valuable to say.

i use this site in order to comminicate with people who otherwise i would not see or hear from,also to impart what knowledge i may have to see what problems others have in their lives and also to generally have a laugh at some of the sillier questions .it helps me to understand that im not the onlyone in the world with problems and that we all need one and other to survive this crazy world .

Sometimes, I think I might be able to really help some one. Other times, just seeing some of the stupid Q's is entertainment.
