fill the tub with just enough water to get their feet wet to discourage them, and stick the litterbox next to the tub. Get them fixated on using the litter box and then gradually move it to where you want it

Water in the tub is the best way to do it. SLowly they'll learn that they don't have access to it anymore. Also put the litterbox next to the tub until they get used to it. Then you can slowly move it out to where you want it.
I find it best to have the litterbox in the bathroom and buy the flushable litter anyway, so much easier!

Well you don't use the tub as often as the cat uses the litter-box. You might try putting the litter-box inside the tub when the tub is not in use. This might help them get the idea that they are to use the litter-box, not the bath-tub.

I wish I knew how old the kittens were...maybe they were never properly litter box trained. Try placing them each individually in the box and show them how to dig with their paws. Also a cat wont go in a dirty litter box...so scoop everyday!!! If none of that works go to walmart and get one of those puppy training crate/cage things and put the kittens and the litter box in there with food and water access. So then they have to go in the litter box. Also if they were declawed then they have an adversion to the litterbox and will prob never use it right again. Declawing causes serious behavior problems.

Hello person, what you should do is always have the door closed so they can't get in & put their litterbox somewhere they can always find it or put it somewhere close to the bathroom. And everytime they go 2 the bathroom door put them in the litterbox and watch them and if they try to escape from the litterbox keep putting them back in until they do their business.Just do this a few times and they'll learn to use the litter box.

if your kitten has not learned to use a litter tray, it is not too difficult to teach him as long as you have the time and patience to do so. Put him in his tray regularly especially after eating, when he wakens up and after playing and he will soon catch on to the idea.
Most kittens will readily use the litter box by the time they are twelve weeks old, many even earlier. The litter box should be easy for them to reach, always available (especially immediately after meal times), clean, and should have only good digging materials available. Cats are fastidious creatures, so you will need to keep the litter box clean to encourage your kitten to use it. If you have trouble with litter box training, try using a differ litter (you can use clean sand or green litter as alternative types of litter), cleaning more frequently, or move the litter box to a different location. If they keep depositing their waste in a particular place, clean the soiled area with an enzymatic neutralizer. You may want to try to feed them in the area that they are soiling for a few days, to try to break the habit. You may want to try to add several litter boxes with different substrates.

Litter Training Your Kitten
The Litter Box and Litter Material
Elimination Problems in Cats
http://maxshouse.com/behavior__training.htm
Litter training is further complicated in households with more than one cat. An easily offended cat may avoid a box that has been used by a housemate, whereas another may be attracted to void in the box to cover the odors left by others. Territorial conflict between cats in multi-cat homes may cause problems relating to use of the litter box. One cat may wait near the litter box to ambush another cat when it attempts to use the box. An increased level of anxiety could lead to inappropriate elimination.

just put about 2 inches of watter in the tub, they wont drown but it will keep them out. And make sure that you show them where the litter box is.

Sounds like they like a smooth suface to poop on put less litter in your box and push it to one side leaving the bottom exposed on the other. I have a cat that was like this she would go in any plastic container around so I checked on the net and found that some cats prefer a smooth suface and that you should try not filling the litter box...it worked for me so it might work for you! Good Luck!
