I've had a loving male Tuxedo cat since he was an unweaned kitten. I nourished him and mothered him the best I could until he was able to eat foods on his own. We've grown very close over the past four years and he is such a sweet cat. Often, he will come up to me and lick my ears and my face or my nose and he sleeps on my head. He also has a tendancy to jump on my shoulders if I bend over and want me to carry him around. Why would he be licking my face and ears constantly?

"Another feline gestures of affection is head-bonking (known to animal behaviorists as "bunting"), in which a cat stands up on her hind legs and bumps a part of your body, usually your hand, with her head."

Awwwww....my best guess would be he’s telling you how much he loves you.

On the physical level, the cat probably is attracted to your breathing, while on the emotional level Kitty wants to be as close to your face as possible that's why he sleeps on your head:)

As you see, sometimes grooming does serve as instigation for play. But generally speaking, when cats lick their humans, it's a gesture of affection. It's not a kiss, like a big yucky slobbery dog lick, but it's a way we show their appreciation to you for stroking and brushing them and making them feel good. In a sense, it's like interspecies mutual grooming.

Did you know cats "kiss" with their eyes? If you see a cat slowly closing and opening his eyes toward you, he's giving you a kiss. And they love it when humans give them cat-kisses like that, too. It's a great way to calm down a tense cat. Just close and open your eyes very slowly and broadcast feelings of love, kindness and safety, and watch how a cat responds to your gesture!

The cat kiss is the opposite of staring. Staring is very rude in cat society, and it usually means you're challenging a cat for territory or food. So it's very important not to stare at a cat...unless you're trying to assert dominance. If so, a stare-down is a good and nonviolent way to assert that you're the "top cat" in your clan. But be warned--cats are much better starers than humans, and if you blink even slightly during a stare-down, you've lost the challenge.

Another feline gestures of affection is head-bonking (known to animal behaviorists as "bunting"), in which a cat stands up on her hind legs and bumps a part of your body, usually your hand, with her head.

The paw pad is one of the most sensitive parts of the body. Cats use paws to tap objects to test their temperature, to see whether they’re “safe” or not, or to just explore them. Cats are also very tactile creatures who love to touch and be touched. Kitties put their faces close to those they trust--that puts vulnerable eyes in contact with possible danger--so he knows you trust him when you let him sleep near your face. His “touching” habit is a way for him to return the favor, and stroke and pet you.

What a compliment!

Because he has grown up with knowing u as his mother. My cat does that to me too. He was given to me at a very young age. I did just as u did as if he was a child. So now till this day he tends to follow me around and if his in the cuddling type of mood, he will plant himself on my lap or chest while im laying on the sofa with a movie and sleep there for the entire time. He licks my ears, cheeks and eyebrows even at times. So really its just their way of showing u that they love ya.

Yep, he loves you. If a cat licks your face, that's essentially the cat version of kisses. Part of the mama cat's bonding with her kittens is washing them, particularly the face and ears. He's just returning the affection and care you showed him. Be proud; you're an excellent keeper!

I think it is his way of trying to groom you. Cats are always grooming. they could be shopwing signs of affection too. I used tohave a huge cat that would suck on my ears but that was because he probably thought he was nursing. i really don't know. Some say cats like the taste of ear wax. i can't imagine that . Cats are cats. I think in your case it is just purr love. God Bless you for giving your cat all the love he deserves. Give him a big kiss for me. I love him too.

Well it seems that he likes you. His licking is a kind of "cat kiss" to show his affections. By the same token, if he was clawing at you, I would call that a "cat slap." Be glad he likes you and is reciprocating the kindness you showed him as a quasi-mother.

He is showing his love for you. Your his mom. I had a kitten that I raised from 6 weeks old, CZ nobody wanted her. She and were very close. If I were to leave the room she would sit there and cry for some time. Show him all the love he wants.

It is his signs of affection. My old tom of sixteen years butts his head against me often but he is a bit big to leap on my shoulders and a little old now for that. He also purrs loudly when I enter a room and wipes his nose on my ear when I pick him up on my shoulder. Like yours he is saying "I love you".
