What is your experience with the Sylvan Learning Center.?

My child was tested at the Sylvan Learning Center and though she is at grade level at her school (going into the fifth) with the exception of comprehension & essay, Sylvan says she needs 4 hrs a week and 3 to 6 months with them to improve....
What is your experience with the Sylvan Learning Center.

I am a full time public school teacher, and part time Sylvan teacher 2 evenings a week (English/for PSAT)

The learning center IS expensive - and your daughter will only get results if the teacher is highly qualified. (Check that all the tutors are state certified and very experienced.)

My experience with Sylvan: The directors want to get you to enroll for the greatest amount of hours. I tell parents twice a week for an hour and a half session is fine, depending on age.

You should have some idea where your child falls in regards to school. (Parent teacher conferences are a good opportunity to discuss what you, or a learning center, can do to strengthen your child's educational weaknesses.

I don't have personal experience but a close friend of mine had a son who was having problems during elementary school. They sent the boy to Sylvan and claim that they helped tremendously.

I know a lady who used them. After paying ridiculous amounts of money, she finally just contacted the child's school and found a local personal tutor. It was hundreds of dollars cheaper and her child did just as well, if not better. I would suggest contacting the school about tutoring programs before dumping loads of money into a "name brand" tutoring program.

They just want your money probably. I heard that place is way expensive.
