Only a christian would be dumb enough to misspell atheist. The dumb ones in this section are the ones that ask these questions (religious). Just because we think, can back up our claims, use logic, and don't think that there is a giant floating pixie in the sky watching us, does not make us dumb, in fact it makes us far more intelligent than religious people. You think it is bad coming from animals, well I guess you did not know that humans are part of the animal kingdom (it's a scientific term). The bad thing would be if we came from 2 original people making us all inbred severely. When it comes to religion we do not know much, because we are to intelligent to fall for it. We have not been fooled into believing in god, which means our minds are not as limited as yours.

I think athiesm shouldn't be oversimplified. It is a matter of miscommunication as are most disagreements that get so heated. There is misunderstanding on the nature of the Old Testament literature and even alot of the language use in the Bible. Ordinary Christians are by and large biblically illiterate on its context and literary devices. How can we expect an athiest to follow the blind? Even if one follows his intuiton (or the call of God), he will become quickly disturbed by an apparent disorder in the ranks or a contradiction from bad sources.

A long time ago when I didn't believe, it was the pushing away of some who would be unChristianlike that caused me to resent them. I am now a Christian only because of the patience and knowledge of a few good Christians who were able to talk to me without being condescending.

My only recommendation to an athiest is that they are dealing with an issue more important than the composition of a cell. The fate of your soul should not be a limited time research project, but a lifetime search. You would be wise to spend alot of your energies researching arguments from both sides and weighing all the evidence at your deathbed. if no sooner.

I think what prevents faith in many athiests is (1) an inability to trust others which is fueled by (2) bad sources. Furthur, it is the fact that even though Jesus was a verifiyable, historical figure there are certain aspect of his life we won't know, a mystery. Imagine that, a God who doesn't tell us everything because we don't need to know. Athiests, like the rest of us, grow up in a country and time where Science is elevated above all and it is not fully understood the relationship and the conflation of Science and Theology. They are largely complimentary even though some would not see this superficially. Like Math and Physics.

In conclusion, Theology to spark the mind, may soften the heart of the curious and ambitious athiest. Perhaps a man who leads with his mind will find his heart may follow if the truth becomes overwhelming to him. He then makes for a much stronger believer, for he has been there. Personally, Theology and its cooperation with the other Scientific disciplines is the perfect study for the analytical, critical athiest mind. It is rich and rewarding and if nothing else, they will know there enemy. However, I trust they will get to know their God in the end.

P.S. If you are arguing in this topic from the Davinci Code or any other fictional titles like Holy Blood, Holy Grail, or the Woman and the Alabaster Jar, then you need more help than you think Mr. PhD of the Dan Brown school of wack. You need GOOD sources and a SCOPE, not Egyptian mythologies or anything pre-dating Jesus's earthly witness.

What makes you think you are so smart as a Christian? Bit arrogant, don't you think? Contrary to your religious belief, Christians do not have as many answers as they think they do. The religion was created as an amalgamation of pre-existing pagan religions from regions surrounding the Holy Land. Most of the Catholic holy days are co-opted pagan days of worshipping pagan gods. The Church destroyed all it's detractors and did all it could to erase the traces of its thievery and co-opting the holy places and holy days of the pagan gods. After killing off all those that disagreed with them, they then started killing off their own when it came to deciding what was the correct doctrine that became Christianity.

The Catholics and Jews wrote the books, and the Protestants later chose which books they would believe in and what Church doctrines they would throw out - just as did the Catholics at the Nicene Council in the early 4th century.

Since that time, other doctrines have been introduced by other people who thought they had the corner on the market of religious knowledge. It wasn't until the early 19th century, for instance, that the idea of a Rapture was conceived of, and some lady in England came up with that (if my memory serves me correctly). And Protestantism itself is not a wholesome composite of just anti-Catholic ideology. You now have multitudes of religions calling themselves Protestant - Methodist, Baptist, Unitarians, Jehovah's Witnesses and the list goes on - and each of these different segments of so-called Protestantism claim that only their flavor of Christianity is the correct one, and none will hesitate to tell anyone not of their faith that they are doomed.

It's gotten so crazy that some religions are not content with just a version of the Bible, they have written their own books to peddle their religious pap - the Mormons in particular.

So, how much have you learned here so far that you didn't know? And how many of your fellow congregationalists will have answers (historcally verifiable, I might add) to refute what I have attempted to teach you here? And since you seem to know so much more than an athiest, answer me when the religions of the Greeks and Egyptians and their gods became myth rather than religion? And also, explain to yourself how you can discount as mythology that Dionysus and Osiris died and rose from the dead, and not see that the story of Jesus' death and resurrection is equally mythological? Is it because you were brainwashed into believing it as a child and have not gained the courage to break the mind-controlled fear of the devil to grow and be a real human being rather than just another elitist, arrogant, falsely piuos religionist following the faith because you never groped outside the belief for the facts?

And the fact that you have the nerve to ask such a question shows your lack of scope and real wisdom. Go read your Bible if you have no more guts than that.

It's not really about 'smart' or 'dumb' with anyone, it's simply about a faith that atheists don't share. One can not choose to have faith like they choose the flavor of ice cream they want. It is a part of you, how you see the world.

I have been told by some christians that i don't believe because of rebellion. But these are always people who don't know anything about me. and it seems easier to attribute a short coming to me rather then to question themselves.

Even religious people are atheists to other religions and beliefs. UFO's, Leprechauns, Santa, etc. atheists just take it one god further.

It's pretty funny that someone who can't spell "atheist" calls other people "dumb."

At any rate, I have studied religion (a lot of different religions, including Christianity) and know a lot more about it than most believers. My education simply confirmed my beliefs.

Exactly!.....To answer your question, the reason that atheists are so dumb when it comes to religion is because they don't have a SPIRITUAL PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD like the born again believers do!.....As you know, atheists Rejects "FAITH" and "GOD"!....remember, they don't believe GOD EXISTS!...so how can they know & experience what true born again believers know & experience?.....they can read all the scriptures they want but they will never get it as long as they keep REJECTING GOD!...........Ps. because you posted this true question, you are going to get some real crule, barbaric, insulting feed back from these GOD HATING atheists like always!.....keep speaking the truth!....

I am an Athiest, top in my V+F class (values and faith class). I have read the bible, and know more than most Christians in my class and above my class about 'God'. After I found all this out I made my decision. I wouldn't make my decision with no evidence. So before you dump all Athiests in the same category, get your facts straight.

Uh, atheists don't claim to come from animals. An atheist is someone who doesn't believe in a higher form. An evolutionist would be someone who believes in evolution. And you didn't use spell check, kettle.
