We just moved here from L.A. and are looking for good restaurants in the area. We're open to various types of cuisine so any restaurants you provide would be awesome. I'm looking for answers from someone also from L.A. I've come to realize that native Arizonans don't really know good food. I don't mean to be rude, but someone from L.A. would know our palette a little better.

Vietnamese: Cyclo at 1919 W. Chandler Blvd.
Soul Food: Soul in the Hole at 601 N. Arizona Ave.
Gelato: Angel Sweet at 1900 W. Chandler Blvd.
Mexican: Valle Luna is decent 1949 W. Ray Rd.

I am from San Diego and visit Phoenix every year for the last two years. Everyone seems to post chain restaurants to their answers for Phoenix. Personally, when I travel I refuse to eat a chain restaurant.

Some places you should try are:

1) Malee's Thai Bistro (2 locations - Desert Ridge and Old Town Scottsdale)

2) Marcellino's Ristorante - amazing pasta! Try the squid ink-blackened fettuccine with with lobster, clams, mussels and squid in a marinara sauce. Don't let the location fool you! Check the review on the link below.

Avoid the Bamboo Club. Worse than PF Changs!

I am still trying to do add to my list, but these two restaurants are a must!

I've lived in AZ for 7yrs. but my palette is still fine.
If you are looking for a good place to eat I'd go into Scottsdale myself. The Roaring Fork. It's pricy but worth every dime. The food ranges from ribeyes & pork chops to seafood & pasta dishes. They were also awarded the James Beard award. They have an excellent wine list and great desserts also.
My spouse and I love to go and try different restaurants when in the area this is the best one yet. We usually go to Vegas if we want go food and also the entertainment. Hope this helps!

get some quick, good mex from los favoritos at chandler & dobson. Carne asada and fish tacos are excellent from my experience, and not a chain...
