What does everyone think about online dating?

I am a mom of a daughter that wants to meet a guy that she has been talking to for over 1 year online. He is cross country from where we live and she wants to go see him first. I think she should have him come here first since she is the female. What do you think?

Well I can definetely understand your concern with your flesh and blood going hundreds of miles to meet a semi-stranger. Her being a female and most likely being more vulnerable I would suggest that he meet her near home where she can be near her family and friends in familiar territory, that way her close ones can see what he looks like and get a feel for what kind of person he is before she takes off with him...it never hurts to take safety precautions even with a seemingly nice guy ;)

I think if the guy really liked her, he should be a gentleman and come and see her.
Of course this should be in a more controlled environment because they have never met yet and he may not be what he seems.
Hope they are a really good match because they seem to change dramatically in real person (personal experience) ^^

If he is a man of good character, he would never be willing to have that happen. He would come to meet you to alleviate any concerns you may have, and would not want her to travel alone.
Her safety would come first and he would be understanding.

I have nothing against on line dating i met a lovely guy through it, but your daughter needs to be very careful as he could be a complete nutter. i recommend that he visits your daughter first so you know she is safe and you can check him out for yourself. a little hint trust your instinct
