We have two cats, and my dad's gf moved in, and she brought her two cats... So, we have 4 now.. Ah.
Anyways, one of my cats is about 7 and needs to lose some weight.
My other cat is a kitten, about 4 months old.
Her cats are both adults with no weight problem.

I was wondering.. I saw a commercial for a cat food that helps moderate weight.. It helps big cats slim down, but small cats stay the same..?

Can I feed that food to all of them?

There's no way we could get each cat to eat a certain type of food. I can't even get the kitten to eat kitten food.

What do you suggest?

I would suggest going to your local pet store and talking with someone about what foods would be good for all cats. If you're looking for something healthier and to keep the weight off---try Science Diet. It's more expensive but it's worth it. Not only is it healthier for them (which is why it's more expensive), but it's keeps their stool hard and helps in digestion. They actually go to the litter box less.
A cheaper brand would be Iams, which is very good for them. Cats are quite resiliant. If you make sure they have fresh water every day and you make sure their food is quality, I am sure they can eat the diet food until the cat with the weight problem loses weight.

You may have to purchase a seperate kitten food for the four month old, because they are specially formulated for kittens. If she won't eat that, then I suggest to go to the pet store and ask them for advice or call your local vet and they may be able to help you. If you don't want to pay the expensive prices of premium cat food, Walmart has their own brand of premium food that is a little cheaper and it's about the same as Iams or Science Diet. The best thing to look at for healthy cat food is the main ingredient. If the first ingredient is corn or something like that---it's not good for them. The best cat food to buy is one where the first ingredient is a meat product.

Well, the best way would be to feed them 2 meals / day in separate bowls so you can feed each what they need. For more info on how I managed to do that (I have more than 2 xs the cats you have!) feel free to contact me.
If you aren't willing to invest the time to train them I can tell you that your kitten will be fine eating adult. Make sure you are feeding good food. Iams has gone thru some changes & is not near as good a food as it used to be. I really like Nutro. You can't beat Science Diet for the $. Innova is great but pricey (worth every cent if you can afford it.). Good Luck

Try feeding the cats about the same time of day. Then get diet food for the over weight cat and confine him in a seperate room to feed him. Then when they are all finished eating pick up the food if any left and put it away. Then the obese one will not be tempted . Most people leave food handy for their pets at all times but you might have to resort to this type of feeding, for the sake of the pudge. Good luck . Hope this is of some help. Give your kitty's a kiss for me.

I wouldn't recommend feeding your cats food from walmart...in the cat world its McDonalds to them. Nutro Natural is a really good food with many varietys. I don't recommend Iams or Eucanuba(sp) because they perform many cruel tests on animals. Go to www.iamscruelty.com to check it out. talk to your vet to see what you should be feeding each cat. Also you may have to get them on a strict feeding ritual and feed them all in different locations so that they will only eat their own food. Feed them a measured amount twice daily. Good luck!!!

I would say the best bet is to talk to your vet about which brand they would reccomend. you can give the cat(s) that need to loose weight 10% less than the other cats that are the right weight. I feed my cats natural choice complete care indoor food. that's what I would recomend as well as what my vet recomended.

the kitten NEEDS to have kitten food for proper nutrition and to be healthy.

Good luck!

I had the same problem. Multiple cats and only two with weight problems. They all get wd weight control food from the vets office. It's very nutritious. It has the added benefit of protecting them all from urinary track infections.

I believe it's Iams multi-cat. I have a similar problem. We keep our food out all the time, they eat a couple of morsels at a time and keep coming back all day/evening.

During the day, they all go out at will with their own door.

At night, they're secured in the house.
