the person talking about B&H is right on, there main competitor is Adorama. Both of them combined are considered the best camera stores in the country (well, guess its a personal opinion), but they are really good, good prices, customer service. Good call on the DReb, love mine and I dont regret buying it. Dont go to a Ritz family (Ritz, Kits, Wolf) because they dont give good prices, its all manufacturers suggested retail and no cheaper,. but they can help you if you need small stuff and questions asked fast.

I thought I would buy a Canon Dig. But you lower add on capabilities. So, investing in a good camera took some good old fashion hands-on research. The HP Regulatory Camera with the Best pixel rate I could find. That would be One of the most important, issue you should have before choosing a GOOD Camera. Another priority would be focal point. You should choose a camera that can not just zoom out/in. But if you want to take closeup pictures for maximum detail, it should have maro lens options. Some camera's don't even have tripod holders,
Other questions you should think about are:
Video Options
Computer Capabilities
Flash Options
Multiple Snap Shots
Film Card(s)
Battery (recharge)
Manual, Auto
Preview window/Fast delete/

I have had pretty good experience with Ebay sellers and with Amazon.com. The sellers on there generally will specify whether or not the camera is new, and should give all the specifications along with the accessories that come with the camera. Ebay seems to have been better, as I bought a cheap camera just for myself, but not for anything extraordinary. My dad bought his Olympus Camedia 750 on Amazon.com after going through all the literature about it. Whatever you decide, good luck!

Check www.computershopper.com or www.cnet.com to find best prices, etc. and potential ratings on consumer sites. Chance are, you can't go wrong with one of the big name places typically, like Buy.com or Amazon. If you're looking at digitals, check out www.dcresource.com. Good luck.

Try a Reputable Pawn Store. Ask if they are members of the National Pawn Brokers Association.

DONT GO TO WALMART
go to costco, if you dont like the camera you bought or it breaks, they have a 100% return policy, and the prices are truely amazing.

Do not spend your money at walmart.
I'd check eBay. Even the want ads have good cams from people who have upgraded.
