Actually, the BEST way to get better at push-ups is to do more push-ups. All the time. Until your arms are about to fall off. Push through commercial breaks while watching t.v. Push while waiting for the bus. Push on lunch break. Push at every opportunity. You'll hurt; but you'll also get better.

For best results use dumbells for balance and symmetry on each side, work triceps mostly all 3 heads, chest muscles as well, ( if you are having problems with regular sit up, shorten it up and go from Knees and do more)

Also flyes on a bench if you have one for wide pat of chest muscles and upper arms.

Shoulder muscles mostly front head( there are 3 on the shoulder) also are important.

Front lateral raises and front should presses . Only using weights you can handle. 3 4 sets of 6-8 reps is ideal to get stronger. Also breathe on exertion at max effort point in the exercises.

Do this at once session or split it up but rest at least 1 or 2 days betwwen each depending on how commited and fast you need to improve soldier.

Yes. Lifting will strengthen your upper and lower arm muscles, the same ones you will need to do lots of push-ups. Also, at the Gym is a bench with a bar you should pull down behind your head to strenghten your neck and shoulder area. Good luck to you and may God bless you.

My first advice would be: are sure that you really want to join the military? Don't take this decision lightly, I was in the Navy for four years and if I could go back I wouldn't have joined. There are other ways to pay for college if that's an issue, a lot of scholarships if you look for them. As a woman you might be able to find more scholarships as well that are only for women.
Getting out of the "Delayed Enlistment Program" is pretty easy, look at this website to do that: http://www.objector.org/girights/delayed-enlistment-program.html

Ok , sorry for all that but please think about it. As for push-ups, gradually increase them only if you're starting with one. Take care.
