Our cat came into the office today and was going in circles. I tried to grab him and he felt solid but ran away. I tried to catch him a couple of times and he scraped me pretty good which is unusual. He was also foaming a the mouth and acting strange. When he's scared, he usually runs and hides, he did not try to hide. I finally caught him and we pried his mouth open to see if he had something stuck in there and he didn't. By this time, he'd returned to normal.
What happened? What should I do? He's only 1.5 years old and such a fun cat.
Could it be a reaction to eating a bug? Or some other food? Will it happen again? I'm a little worried.

Update: He's an indoor cat that is up-to date on vaccines. He's been just fine since the incident. He eats everything so I'm thinking maybe a spider or other bug. He wasn't screaming as we'd have heard that. -Thanks to everyone and keep advice coming. :)

Wow, what an interesting (read: scary) experience. It may have been a seizure or some other type of neurological problem.
Is he up to date on his vaccinations? I hate to mention rabies but it can cause many weird symptoms.
I would suggest keeping a close eye on him and see if he is eating, drinking, urinating and defecating normally and take note of anything unusual. If you notice anything else strange make an appointment with your veterinarian immediately.

Oh sweetie! I would be so worried also, that is NOT normal behavior. Please take to a vet or call a vet asap and get some advice. It is possible that he had a seizure, or he could have injested something horrible and it will only continue to get worse without treatment. Call a vet you will feel 100 percent better and the kitty will to :)

I saw this once with my dog.. He had been playing with a gecko.. not the nice ones that are green but this one was black.. Those, are not nice as when disturbed, they excrete a liquid and when it gets into the mouths of a dog or cat, they sort of go berserk for a while.
YOUR situation, however, sounds.... yes, it sounds as if the dog MIGHT be having epileptic fits... Keep a watch on it and see if it happens again and if it does, you might haves to go to a vet to get medicine for it.

My mother had a Schnauzer that used to have seizures and was put on Phenobarbital by her Vet and she never had another seizure the rest of her life and lived to be 12 years old. Good luck.

I don't think it was a seizure, but something is defintly wrong. My dog did that when she swallowed poison, but the way you described it with the feeling solid... He could of ate something that expands in his stomach. TAKE HIM TO THE VET. We ain't all vets around here..

It sounds more like your cat ate something nasty. Depending on how he's acting it may be nothing or something serious. How is he now? Keep a close eye on him.

Please, please, please take your cat to the vet asap. It may have gotten into a poison or it may have what my cat had a few years back, something to do with a problem with an inner ear imbalance.
I wish you all the best there is for that cat.
