I have accomplished this the old fashioned way, cut my calorie intake to 1500, my fat grams to 30 for the day and exercise 30 minutes three times a week. So far I'm at 75 pounds and counting.

Back in 2001, I weighed 305. I've been as low as 223 since, and have floated up to 252. Currently at 245. Goal is 160 or lower.
I started off by not buying any kind of food or drink from vending machines. That got me down to 265. Then I got on Atkins.
Atkins is great, but hard to stay on, especially when living with non-participants. That's why I floated back up to 252 at one point.
I will soon be moving out on my own, so I know I will be getting down to 160ish within the next two years.

I'm not sure how much weight I lost, I think it was around 40 - 50 pounds - lost it by smoking meth. Gained it back once I stopped. But that's okay - I felt really gross and boney.

Cutting down on breads, limited junk food, eating fruits, drinking TONS of water, and staying active. Eating smaller meals throughout the day worked better for me than 3 big meals, also.
