Standing calf raises, seated calf raises. Squats and using the leg press machine also utilize the calves. Genetics also play a role in the size of your calf muscles.

Running does do the trick, at least for me.

There are some great exercises (see the bodybuilder.com link), but I should warn you: developing great calves is largely genetic and does take a LOT of time. Be sure that you are doing both seated and standing calf exercises, as you need to stress the muscle from both angles to so 100% results.

Muscle and Fitness Magazine seems to indicate that you have to train them often and heavy to see results -- and it may take you a year or two before you get the quality you are seeking. So if you do decide to try to get them, know that you'll be in for the long haul.

I've developed decent calves, mostly from running. I think some of it is genetic though, as most of my family has decent ones too.

Good luck.

There used to be a special shoe you could buy, that forced you to walk on your tip toes. I can't remember the name, but I remember the add in Muscle and Fitness. I think it even made it onto an episode of Seinfeld. Might check it out on a search engine.

stand on your tippy toes and raise them up and down about 100 times an hour. it might take long to see results, but atleast it works.

walk up and down the stairs, instead of stepping flat footed step with your toes then bring your foot down, this uses more of your calve muscles.
