No more than the Pope intervened for the Americans winning most of the medals in the recent few Olympics. Americans just suck at soccer, dear.

The pope is German you idiot, and the one before was Polish.

But to answer your question the Pope has to follow the teachings of Jesus and the foundation of these teachings was that human beings could be saved by both believing his word and by modeling their lives on the higher moral law of God.

In line with this higher moral law, Jesus of Nazareth preached an ethics of selfless concern for the welfare of others, rejection of material wealth, and non-retribution, all of which were standard in Jewish ethics. In his statements, Jesus of Nazareth explicitly rejects government, politics and soccer as a legitimate sphere of human action.

Although, since the Pope is German, he WOULD probably want the Italians to win! (Or at least the French to lose!)

Didn't realize the game was over..... Hadn't heard any horns blowing yet!!!! Last night I knew the moment Germany had won the 3rd place. Parties started in the middle of the night here.....

And I'm sure the Pope has an interest in his country's games!!! :-)

The pope is the King of Vatican City, not Italy. I don't think the Vatican will be fielding a team any time soon.
