About a month ago I came down with extremely sore & swollen throat and glands, I went to the doctor and got tested for mono and strep and came back negative for both.
The sore throat went away in a few days but I have continued to feel extremely tired for almost 4 weeks now, I am sleeping 10-12+ hours a day and am still exhausted. I am taking my vitamins, drinking lots of orange juice, getting a ton of bed rest, cut down on exercize, everything I know to stop feeling so fatigued.
Then a few days ago I went back to my doctor and they tested me for mono again as well as checked vitals and blood etc. Everything was normal except low white blood count. So I obviously have a virus of some kind...

but I don't know what.

Its starting to go away, but I would still like to know what I had! I am a swimmer training for US nationals and this has really messed up my training, so I definitely don't want to get it again!

thanks for any info you have!

It could be any number of things from a persistent virus to thyroiditis to adrenal stress. I'm going throught the same thing that started in January right before World Championships (I'm a professional bike racer) and continues to this day. I'm unable to train and have been actively searching for the source of my illness for several months now. Did your blood tests include thyroid testing? Have you had your liver functions tested? How about a saliva test for adrenal stress? Doctors have told me to avoid sugar, caffine, and alcohol. Also recomended was to supplement with glutamine and branch chain amino acids. Find a doctor that takes an interest in you and your condition. Don't try to start training too soon, it could cause it to come back. Missing one month of training now is much better than missing several months later.

I am not a physician. And I am concerned about the testing your doctor has performed. If you are still feeling this way, you should continue to stay in touch with your doctor. Monitor your signs and symptons on a chart. There has to be something. If he cannot find anything (low iron, etc), then he needs to refer you to some other specialist. Whatever "it" is, you should know and also whether there was some treatment or precautions you could take in the future. I wish you well.

sorry, but if your docter could not give you a deffinate answer, then there is no sure way to know. If you are always on the go, it could just be you got a virus that took along time to get over, cause you push yourself too much. It happens with people who are very busy in life

There are a variety of viruses that can run a debilitating course like that besides mono. Hepatitis is one notable one. It seems your doctor is doing the right things.
