Well, surely they had God's blessing, but there were no wedding planners, then, and no caterers, either (not to mention no one to fit Eve's white wedding gown), so it's a crapshoot.

Marriage, in our common, modern context is not what existed from the beginning.
If you read in the Bible, the man went into his bride and KNEW her (sex) and made her his wife.
The intent, on both sides, was that the pair be seen by society as married. This was usually celebrated as a joyous occasion and it culminated in Their first night together.

the modern idea of marriage is th cerimony and the signing of licenses. these trappings are not as it should be as the church has no authority over who gets married nor has authority to recognise nor disallow marriage! Nothing in the BIBLE gives the 'church' this position.
as for licenses, the state has always found a way to steal from its subjects and the marriage license is just such a way.
In the US today, only a few states recognize 'common-law' marriages. this is where a man and woman move in together and present themselves as mr and mrs. after that is done, thy are married and need a divorce just as if they had a 'license'
this is closer to how God designed.
Adam took Eve to be his wife.
they had children.
their children were NOT out of wedlock!

Thanks!

To wolf white feather,
the Bible does NOT state that Adam and Eve had ONLY 2 children!
Quite the opposite, in fact. they had many sons and daughters. Seeing as how adam lived 930 years, I would assume that it is not out of the question that he could have fathered nearly 1,000 children, just with eve!

The biblical prohibition of not marrying one's siblings did not come into effect for many, many years!

No and Yes (but no lol)

No -

At the time of birth, Adam and Eve were the only humans...
God created Eve for and from Adam, so they were in a PERMANENT, committed relationship together...

Yes -

We verify marriage by a ceremony or a specific set of actions. I doubt God made them recite vowels...

well if adem and eve were the only other people around
then yes they were!
but that beggs another question.
who did Cain and Aable Marry? as the bible states they only had the two kids in the first place....????
did they do each other to make wives to marry latter?
maybe dad let them borrow eve?

I don't believe so. Since Eve was created to be a companion for Adam, I would say that made her his official wife from the get-go.

These people didn't really exist. This is an allegorical story about a man who killed his brother out of jealousy, in an attempt to teach others not to let jealousy control their lives or cause them to do things that they will latter regret.

Since no society existed yet (all of mankind consisted of Adam and Eve themselves, no one else), there was not a formal "instituation of marriage" . . . however, the way that Adam and Eve committed themselves to one another WITH THE BLESSING OF GOD set the precedent of what would become the "institution of marriage" . . .

When Cane and Able chose wives from the city there were only the two of them and their parents on the Earth... LOL

Maybe the imaginary priest from the "city" married them.

No. God joined their parents together as husband and wife after Eve was created. Read Genesis.
