Anyone know of a good merlot within $60.00? Unfortunately I'm a white wine drinker so I don't know a lot about Merlot. This is a gift, so I don't know if she has a preference, but she seems to like all kinds of merlot. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Twomey. They have the best Merlot I've ever tasted.
Raymond *Rutherford* Merlot. Lots of great flavour in this (I have a bottle open right now!). This is only around $30, so you could get one Rutherford and one regular and she can do a taste test. : )

Merlots are favoured by some wine beginners because they are so mellow. However, if you spent the $60 on a good cab or pinot, you may be making a better investment. The Twomey is spectacular, but a nice Domaine Drouhin Laurene Pinot or Silver Oak Cab would give her the mellowness with more depth and flavour than a traditional Merlot.

I would rarely serve Merlot at any dinner party, but the Twomey and Rutherford are two that are the exception. And, they are worth the price.

Good luck in your shopping!

Try Beringer's White Merlot. I think it's really good, and it'll probably be under $20 for the larger size bottle. Most liquor stores will carry it. Or be adventurous and try some of the Australian varieties....they're excellent also.

Clos Pegase. The merlot is not as good as the cab, but that is a matter of taste.

Louis M. Martini makes a very elegant Merlot if you can find it. If you can't, try Duckhorn, it is a little more expensive, but within your range. Or, Kenwood.

60 is too much for a merlot. try getting her a pinot noir, a late nineties vintage Clois du Bois(California) would really satisfy
