If you think you are getting 12 hours of sleep, I think you are wrong. I think you are not aware that you wake up a lot of times in-between sleep and you don't breathe normally, that's why you get up feeling tired. You call this sleep apnea.
The most common kind of sleep apnea is called Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome. Sleep apnea means "cessation of breath." It is characterized by repetitive episodes of upper airway obstruction that occur during sleep, usually associated with a reduction in blood oxygen saturation. In other words, the airway becomes obstructed at several possible sites. The upper airway can be obstructed by excess tissue in the airway, large tonsils, a large tongue and usually includes the airway muscles relaxing and collapsing when asleep. Another site of obstruction can be the nasal passages. Sometimes the structure of the jaw and airway can be a factor in sleep apnea.

There are some health problems that could be the cause. Many things such as thyroid problems cause you to be tired often. This was the case w/me until I was diagnosed and put on thyroid medicine which has really seemed to help! Also if you have problems staying still at night, RLS (restless leg syndrome) could be to blame. It's not just for old people! My boyfriend has it and he is only 22 years old. It would never hurt to see a doctor...and you definitely should if it doesn't change soon, because if it is a health problem, it could probably turn into something more serious as it progresses. Even if it's not a health problem, you'll have peace of mind and he'll also more than likely tell you how to be refreshed and ready to go when you wake up in the mornings. Hope I helped and good luck.

Too much sleep can kill
Samena Chaudhry Birmingham

Excessive sleeping may increase your risk of an early death by up to 15%, according to a new analysis of data collected on one million people by the American Cancer Society. The figures cast doubt on the reputed benefits of eight hours' sleep a night.

Psychiatrists at the University of California, San Diego, found that people with the longest lives slept for only seven hours each night (Archives of General Psychiatry 2002;59:131-6). Why seven is the magic number is not clear. Sleeping more seems to be riskier than sleeping less, although less than four hours a night is also associated with increased mortality.

What's normal for some is not normal for others. If you wake feeling tired then it could be a medical condition that is not allowing you to get restful sleep. I'd make a doctor's appointment.

Should do some cardio exercise 3 times a week for 30 minutes, eat less beef and high-calorie desserts, more lean chicken, salmon, and high-fiber cereal. Finally, don't sleep right after eating dinner. Sleep time should be cut by half, plus you'll feel rejuvenated for the entire day!

Try improving your diet, I can guarantee you you are not eating right, or you would not be so tired. Eat more veggies and drink lots of plain water and start taking a multivitamin. Excersise will definately help to. Go jogging in the morning.
