I want to install a cat window in my metal sash window that goes onto my deck. Door-type or wall-type cat doors are not an option. A site I visited said the window couldn't have a lip on it (for lifting the window open), does anyone know about this? My window has one. I also can't use the electric collar activated ones either, cause my cats don't wear collars. ( They don't tolerate collars.)
Any info would be helpful. This is serious and urgent cause my cats are indoor-outdoor and they need a way to get inside when I'm at work. Please, I don't need any advice about cats as I've had cats for 45 plus years and I'm well versed.

Thanks Kay , but my back door onto the deck is wooden with glass window panes in it so that's not an option.

A lip shouldn't make any difference. Below is a link to a site that offers window kits for installing pet doors (for both dog and cat, even though the link says "dogdoors"). Kits are available for either sliding windows or raised windows. After I studied the diagram (it's almost at the bottom of the page, btw) I understood how it worked and how you are still able to lock your window. It's a very neat concept. There may be other sites, too, but this is the only one I visited:

I don,t see why you couldn,t come up with some type of a door that the cats can come and go thru.A thorough web search is in order or ask a Veterinarian I,m sure they have heard of this situation many times. I have a cat too and she loves to look at the outside world but wants no part of it...LOL.

I cut a square hole in the bottom of our door to the screen porch. I installed a cat door in the hole. Now the cats can come and go from the screen porch when they want. I used a medium pet door (for small dogs) because my cat is fat. The door has magnets so it seals it self, but it does not lock. It is a standard pet door from a pet store.

We put the cat door right into our door, out to our deck. Works like a charm and just follow the installation instructions. I recommend it highly!

Check with your local home improvement store, (Lowe's, Home Depot, something). If you tell them you're intent and your specifications, a lot of times they cat get you something that will work. It might have to be specially made and ordered, but most of the time they can get something, or they can find out who can.

I think you should try a dog door.

Try a pet store and see what they have available.
