Or would you make excuses for him and stick around and pray it doesn't happen again?

You Leave... but not before You take a Skillet to the Side of His Head!

Most women don't necessarily leave on the first incident even when they should (it probably depends on the severity) but the old adage is if he/she will hit you once they will do it again. Most of the time there are sign that some one is abusive way before the physical stuff starts and that's when the excuses for them begins and by the time they get physical the person is a psychological wreck.

I lived in a battered women's' shelter for 5 months, and denial is the norm. I lived in an abusive marriage for over 20 years, and to this day it has skewed my sense of normal. Something happens, you've seen worse, so perhaps it's not that big of a deal. You hear other women complain about their husbands being jerks, so you think being a jerk must be normal. You hear other women mention that they had a fight with their husbands, so you think fighting must be normal--only the definitions of "fight" are not the same for both women.
I can't say this enough--leaving right away is ever so much easier than staying around and becoming isolated so you have no where to go, and being convinced that you are worthless and powerless and couldn't get along without him.

I wouldn't stick around for another second, because it will happen again and again and again unless the abuser gets help. Most of the time it is hard to convince the abused person to leave, because they think they somehow deserve it. There are safe houses for battered women to go to.

I'ld have him arrested and make him leave. Nothing excuses abusive behavior and any woman that stays in an abusive relationship desperately needs help.
That goes both ways because some women abuse men too.

I would probably arrange for him to leave, not me. If he does it once he will do it again. What's this: "If you think he'll do it again." What does thinking have to do with reality. Anyone, male or female, who is physically aggressive will continue to be physically aggressive unless they determine they need help to change that behavior. If your boyfriend has hurt you. Send him packing now for your own safety. Too many people die every week from some guy who can't keep his hands to home. We had a shooting death here in my State last week. Now children are orphans. This isn't cutsie or funny. This is deadly serious.

As a man, sorry for answering this, I hope you leave right away. Love shouldn't hurt, and there's no excuse for physical abuse. Get out of there as soon as you possibly can. Best of luck to you..........

I sure wouldn't make any excuses for him. I would let EVERYBODY know exactly what he did and why he did it. Then maybe he would think twice before he wanted to hit me again. I would stay with him after the first time, but if the sucker EVER hit me again, he is gone and no return!!! And again EVERYBODY would know again that he is a WOMAN BEATER!!!!!!!!! So I hope this answers your question.
