It's hard to take a post seriously when simple words are rendered nearly unrecognizable. If you don't have enough interest in your message to proofread it, why should anyone else pay attention to it?

I think part of the reason that some people do not use spell check is the "IM syndrome" - they are so used to abbreviating during instant messaging and text messaging that it carries over into every thing else. I hear that kids are even doing it at school (and some teachers are accepting it!!!) and that just really makes me sad for the future!

Wow...that was almost too scary as I read your question the very same thought was passing through my mind. I think that the majority of those who refuse to use the "check spelling" function, is because they honestly don't have the intelligence to understand what it's there for...or they're simply just too stupid enough to care. But THAT'S the kind of people our educational institutes are passing-out diplomas to these days. Did you ever realize that many people are "teachers" (if they can actually be called that), because they failed in their majors in college? I remember reading about that statistic somewhere...but it's slipped my mind. Personally, I don't believe they have a conscience...otherwise it would trouble them to submit that kind of writing to the known world with their name hanging upon their ignorant questions and misspellings.

The spell check doesn't work if you have more than 250 characters in you answer. If the answer is longer, you get a red message that says, "Oops, spell check is choking" or something like that.

I agree with you, though. I'm afraid most of these people couldn't have passed sixth grade where we went to school.

Because the people that don't use the check spelling probably feel that they know how to spell good enough without having to use it. But u r right how is anyone supposed to take answers seriously when words aren't spelled right.

Amen! It's very tiring to have to read and reread to understand what the question is actually about, not to mention having to add your own words to make it understandable. I feel like I am trying to proofread the work of a foreigner.

Well, I don't know why, but when I am on Y!A at work I don't have the spell check. One day it just disapearred. And my pc at home looks totally different. But I do try to spell my best either way. Sometimes I do have typos, but when I realize it I actually go back and edit.

Sometimes I just get in a hurry and forget. What's it matter anyways? If you know what their talking about, why correct their grammar? To make our selves feel smarter I guess.
