I'm mexican descent, but i was born in america.I speak both languages clearly,i went to school here,i pay taxes, and i love my country(United States of America),and i'd fight for my country.Nobody has the right to tell me i'm not an American,or this is not my country.America is made up of immigrants, weather your ancestors imigrated here 100's of years ago,or 50 years ago does not make a difference.Everybody's ancestors imigrated here at one point. An American is somebody that would fight and support our country over any other country in the world. And i don't support everything mexican people do,just because i am of mexican decent,i support what is right, just as every American should.

Evidence that many Americans think American belongs to white people is even in our language. Have you ever heard the terms African-American, Asian-American, etc? Sure. Have you ever heard a white person being called a Euro-American? No. White people are called Americans the rest of 'em are hyphenated something-other-than-Americans. Also, I've got brown skin and people ask me all the time if I speak English. Why do they assume I don't? Some people tell me I speak English very well. Only white people say this, b/c they assume all brown people are immigrants. I answer, that's very white of you to notice

No, sane person believe that the US belongs to light, skin, blond-haired people. Or would want such a condition for citizenship. This is an insincere question, but I'll try to answer it—acting on the assumption that the person who phrased it, is sincere.

The immigration question is one regarding the degree of control. Are open borders realistic? Should we have some fundamental requirements of immigrants, say that they study English as a condition of remaining here? Another question is whether availability of cheap immigrant labor lower wages, setting back the gains of the labor movement? Another question, is who will pay for the increased social services the immigrants will demand?

There are a hundred questions and because they haven't been prioritized they haven't been answered. So misinformation fogs the discussion? Also, opportunists on both sides of the issue have much at stake in misrepresenting the issues.

At the turn of the century, the country could absorb millions of immigrants—industry was labor intensive, there were few social programs and new immigrants had few expectations beyond feeding themselves and making a better life for their children. Time, events, context add to the complexity, so referring to the US as a nation of immigrant is beside the point.

The important thing is to ask sincere and intelligent questions, which may produce sincere and intelligent answers.

America belongs to all of the people who are born here, and the ones that are let in to gain citizenship according to quotas set for safety and caution of overpopulation. The color of your skin has nothing to do with your right to be in the country, and it is sad that you were born here, and just because of all the controversy with the mexican immigration laws, that you have to go through that. If you were born here, and your ancestors came into this country, just as this country started, then dont worry about it. Those are just ignorant people who think that anyone different than them don't belong. I am white, and I believe that if you came to the country LEGALLY, then you have every right to be here. If you were born here, just as I, then It is YOUR country too.

Contrary to what everybody is writing here, not all Americans are immigrants. Cherokee, Choctaw, Chumash, Pomo etc etc are Native American nations ( aboriginals ) and were here long before Columbus sailed near America. So be careful who you are calling immigrant, as some of us have ancestors that were here long before white people, African slaves, Spaniards, English and French set their eyes on 'the New World'. And actually, there were "Mexicans" that were in California and Arizona and Nevada before 1492 as well, making them native Americans.

There are ignorant people in this country, their are also ignorant people in Mexico, that hate Americans, but yet they all want to come here . The biggest majority of Americans feel, that race, sexuality, and sex should not matter.

You seem to be pointing fingers, and making blame.... This same tactic you are using is the same thing done by Hitler.... and we all know how that ended up .

I agree with you, but have no answers. Just one question: why is there even a limit on how many immigrants can come over here, thus creating "illegal" ones? I mean its not like its stopping them anyways, not that I think that we should, but I definatelly do not think that we should kick someone out of this country just because someone else beat them on the way in.

Even in countries such as Mexico, other Latin American countries, Africa, etc. there is discrimination based on skin colour and yes, they tend to prefer the lighter skinned amongst themselves! Prejudice is in all countries. However, that does not make it right and basically I tend to believe that it is NOT the feeling of the majority of people. I think more prejudiced people tend to be less educated. That fact, alone, tells you not to accord them too much consideration.

Well, about 95% of crimes are committed by minorities, 7 out of 10 Black babies are born out of wedlock, and there are an average 1 million rapes committed by illegals each year. I can see why many people favor Whites and look for only individual exceptions. I personally think that many people hate Mexicans because of the first and last reason mentioned, as well as because:
a. The illegal immigrants came here and marched under a foreign flag. (Just like invaders do).
b. Statistics like these:

My favorite quote when immigration was the 'topic of the day' and the thought was 'deport 'em all':
"Good thing the Native Americans didn't use that theory a few hundred years ago!"
