Okay I'm 24 and have 2 little girls plus an adopted dr, a husband that works full time and a cat. I have one yr of college underneath my belt, do you put everything on the back burner and go through college and med school to become a dr to better benefit you and your children later. Or do you give up your dream and move on?

I have thought about this myself and opted out. Your kids are only young once, and they need a mother who will be there for them. You are not giving up your dream, you are putting it on hold for the benefit of the children you brought into this world (and the one you didn't) They need their mommy to help them with their homework instead of worrying about when she will have time to do hers, and to read them bedtime stories, not lock herself in her room to read Grey's Anatomy. If you need a better job then maybe you could consider nursing school for the time being, at least that would be a bit more manageable then trying to become a doctor while your children are young.

You need to also do a very indepth and truthful self assessment. Can you handle college and med school? Do you have the academic qualifications to compete in a very tough field? If so, then do it.

Do you want to live your whole life regretting that you didn't go after your dream? You might end up resenting your family because you feel you "gave this up" for them.

Go for it. It may take more time, but investing in yourself is worth it.

It's not impossible to go for your dream, but think about what you will be sacrificing in its place. There will be less time at home, and more effort on your family to make up for where you can't be. But if it is worth it to you, go ahead.
Is there anything in the middle of being a doctor and doing nothing? A nurse maybe? Just a thought.
Good luck.

You have a long road still ahead of you.If your feeling discouraged now maybe your only in love with the ideal but not up to the challenge.Anything is possible if you want it. I am a student with three children and I have not given up. I plan to start a masters program with the children next summer. My goal is to attend law school. Just don't give up. If you fell discouraged surround yourself with postive people who have you best intrest at heart. I only deal with positive thoughts, people, and jobs. You can do it !

Don't give up on your dream, it may be hard (but when is it not?) but you can figure out how to balance it all. If it is something you really want to do, then you should do it! Do you have family that could help watch your kids for you? i think you can do it. Don't ever give up on a dream just becasue it is hard to obtain (easier said than done I know, but it CAN be done).

GO FOR YOUR DREAMS... you can balance the kids and cat somehow.

If it will better benifit you and your children that can be your motivation if you EVER feel like you are doing hte wrong thing.

Your husband should support you 100% ...

You go after what your head tells you is important to you.In the end the reward will all be worth the sacrifice. You will regret not going to school if you let the opportunity pass you by.If you have the intelligence and money to go after your medical career go for it.

Do you want to be a doctor? Why not just chip away at college til you finish. Then decide where to go from there. At least you will have you degree.
