Let Canada have them, we do not want these guys crowding our jails or serving next to guys who would depend on them.

Uh ... It's the military, you can't "resign". Once you sign the contract and take the oath you're pretty much stuck until the end of the contract. (However, it's a little different for Commissioned officers, but still, you can't simply quit like a regular job.)

Also keep in mind the motive behind the Iraq War deserters? Why do you think these folks deserted? Maybe they don't think what we're doing in Iraq is the right thing to do. That's a perfectly reasonable opinion to have.

It should be a question of ones conscience. It also would be considered a illegal war if the international community had done the right thing and made invasions and occupations international criminal offences as the United Nations should have done at the close of world war two, "the war to end all wars!" The United Nations mandate is supposed to be to "protect this world from war." The United States host es the United Nations in New York city and influences the world for war! What terrible hypocrisy! Surly you can see this? It is against the laws of Canada and most civilized nations on earth for one individual to kill another for any reason at all. Yet, it is acceptable to start a war and invade another country for no good or obvious reason killing thousands, even hundreds of thousands of innocent people and all the destruction, corruption, illness, poverty that this war in Iraq and all others cause? It is a matter of conscience. Of good will and intentions that United States citizens say; "no" to Mr, Bush and his war mongering administration gone way wrong! If these US citizens need to have political asylum from this out of control administration down there I saw we give it to them with full honers of setting a good example for the international community in place of the terrible one of the Bush administration.

No, educated Iraqi civilians should be allowed in ahead of deserters. The deserters volunteered in the first place, and most are poorly educated misfits who have nothing to offer Canada. They are obviously too dumb to function in Canadian society if they believed everything some recruiter told them. If we gave American deserters asylum than we would have not have the right to insist that Canadian Forces members fulfill the commitments they signed up for.

It would also be just plain racist for Canada to offer white American deserters refuge, while some Chinese Peoples Liberation Army guy who doesn't fancy occupying Tibet has no such opportunity. Americans; deserters or not, should not get special treatment from Canadian immigration.

We can't Canada wont let us. But being a Vietnam wife I think the statue for deserters was a bit much. I just don't get why it's honorable to turn your back on your country. OK so it you don't like what's going on you stay and fix it. Some did not leave and chose to go to jail for their belief. I think that was a more honorable choice.

You mean "go in" as in pre-emptive strike? hmmm, it worked before, might get away with it again! . ... maybe you think Rummy would go for it again? Shee-it, those pesky Canadians have been spoiling for it anyway! Hell with whatever that sovereignty thingy anyhoo, right? never saw no good use for civil rights or whatever, just a pain in the constitution!

See www.dictionary.com if you need help with that "sovereignty" word.
