There are many of us on meds for gad. Don't feel alone. Think of it this way. If you were diabetic, you wouldn't feel ashamed to take insulin. If you had high blood pressure, you would take your meds to control it. We have an imbalance, that needs to be controlled with meds (and if you are like me, you tried for a long time to go without them). There is no shame. It is an illness that we are treating.

i went into a major depression a few years ago. i also had anxiety attacks. i was treated with different meds before the right ones for me was discovered. when i say major, i mean major. sleeping day and night, and eating only chocolate, which i found out contains a natural compound that is normally produced by the brain. saying and doing things that i did not remember later. fighting my family about anything. i now take effexor, lexapro and xanax. so you are surely not by yourself, i know that sometimes you may wonder "why me". you know somethings wrong, but yu don't know why. i see a pschyatrist and a clinical social worker. the doctor manages my meds and the social worker is there to help me manage my feelings. things you wouldn't feel comfortable talking about to anyone else. with her all that i tell her is confidential. we have a good repore with each other and it helps me to handle everyday things that would ordinarily toss me into a panic attack.

Indeed many folks use medications of all sorts to function these days do to the fact that science has come so far and offers new medications for illness's/diseases that were thought to be incurable or untreatable years ago. I take both of the meds that you mention and they work well for me. If they are working well for you, great ! I have noticed on these Question/Answer Boards that many will tell you about what meds THEY are taking and what THEY think work best. Remember it is between you and your prescribing doctor that know what is best for you. Every one that answers these type of questions I am sure have the best intent.

I take paxil for depression and anxiety, your definitely not alone. There are millions in the U.S. alone that take medication for these kind of things. At first I thought I had a disease but I realized that some of the best people I know are on medication and it's not such a bad thing. I've learned alot in my life being on medication. Look to the bright side
