I love mine and get great reception in bad weather. The only exception is if snow actually builds up on the dish (which is rare, even here in Colorado) so have it installed somewhere you can get to it with a broom.

We have had both Direct and Dish. Both seem to go out equally in bad weather. Neither went out in cloudy conditions. Both in bad storms and heavy rains. Neither in just sprinkling rain.
Haven't had experience with snow. It didn't snow in either place we lived with either system.
We chose dish this time because it was a bit cheaper. We didn't have to pay a monthly charge for as many receivers because dish has 2 that cover 4 tv's as opposed to direct having 4 separate.
We didn't have to get a second dish for networks either. (as I seen someone say above) and we live way out in the country. We get great reception.
Other than that there weren't too many differences. If you are planning on getting Satellite internet, go with directv as dish doesn't offer it yet.
Hope that helps.

The weather should not affect the quality of reception, satellite service is generally very good through out the year. In a 365 days a year, you'll probably get 3 to 5 days of down time, sometimes due to equipment upgrades. Direct TV or Dish Network, it doesn't make any difference. The difference is their line up of programs and price. BUT, you should always be careful to read the fine print before entering a contract. They usually make you sign a one year deal or more packages.

I have direct tv, dish network, and comcast. I think they are all the same. I never really have a problem with the satelites during weather storms. Also regular cable even goes out sometimes too and it happens at random times. Ive had to call in more times for digital cable than Ive had to for satellite. Direct tv and dish network are pretty much the same, but i like dish network's interface a little more.

In the last year I only had DirecTV go out on me once and that was during a real bad storm..for about 15mins then it came back on. I think it's great and way cheaper than cable. Just make sure when they position it there isn't anything blocking it.

well we have it here at work, the smallest storm and it doesn't work at all, I cant stand it, I have cable at home and in 3 years only had it go out twice, and for short times.
another thing is if there is a bad storm coming, unless your watching a local channel (and that needs a second dish!) you don't get the notice like you do on cable. then when the storm hits you cant watch the weather report lol would suck if you live in an area that gets bad storms.

I have had dish network in the past, but now have directv. You have to have view of the southern sky for directv satelite dish. It works great except for ocasional sun spots, or if it rains or snows really, really hard.

I've had DirecTV for about 4 years now and when it especially windy and thunder, it cuts in and out. Make sure there is no interference either, because my dish is on the roof of my house, but my neighbor has a weed that grew into a tree and it rubs against the dish and totally ruins my reception. I have asked her a million times to chop it down and she's like, "I won't kill a living tree." So I trim it every month and throw the branches on her side of the lawn. UGH, thanks for letting me vent!

It is good, only severe rain storm might temporary knock it out. I am on cable now, but plan on going to Dish Network soon. I have checked both out & i think that you get more for your money with Dish Network.

Dish or Directv both go out in crappy weather. Though, once, our Directv wroked in a storm. I would go with Directv.
