For years I have had great difficulty pursuading my family that this substance (also marketed as "Canderel" and "Nutrasweet") makes me ill.
It is difficult as more and more product in the UK contain this substance. I am lucky, because I can now smell it even in manufactured products, so don't eat or drink them.
It is really embarrassing when offered a drink out asking if I can see the bottle and then saying I will have tap water!!!!

I researched this substance, and discovered that it breaks down in the body to form Phenyl alanine and methanol.

Yes. It has been proved that some people have had reactions to aspartame. Never be embarrassed to ask questions about what you are putting in your body. You are very smart to ask. Imagine the folks that are allergic to peanuts or any by products of peanuts; they must be careful and they MUST ask questions. If you are ever in doubt order water or plain iced tea if you are embarrassed but try to get over the embarrassment, each time you ask the question it will become easier. Honest. Good question !

I found out I had a "sensativity" to aspartame about 14-15 years ago. I was chewing sugar-free gum when I passed out. Nurse told me it was a rare sensativity to it.
Fast-forward some years and I find out that one of my brother's has it, my cousin on my mom's side does EXACTLY like you explained and I can smell it and it makes me ill. Aspartame actually does something to your brain stem (the covering of it) and that's why its not for children under 4 (it can cause seizures in children that young) but in adults, the covering is thicker/tougher, so it doesn't affect us-- or at least SOME OF US. I can tolerate Splenda and saccharine isn't too bad.
The nurse told me to list is as an allergy. It's most likely genetic and anything with aspartame will affect you, no matter how minute the amount.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

from time to time Splenda does make me sense dizzy. it really is because Splenda isn't organic; that is a chlorinated synthetic sweetener. there have been no lengthy-time period human analyze on the protection of Splenda; although, themes were raised about Splenda in a clean study from Duke college. in accordance to the study, Splenda “suppresses useful micro organism and quickly impacts the expression of the transporter P-gp and cytochrome P-450 isozymes that are prevalent to intrude with the bioavailability of medication and foodstuff. besides, those outcomes take position at Splenda doses that comprise sucralose stages that are licensed by using the FDA for use in the nutrition furnish.

I have a friend that was not feeling well for a long time and finally saw a Dr and was told she had aspartame poisoning. She drank diet coke all day long which has loads of it in it. You should not feel embarrased for asking whats in the product after all it's your health at stake.

Everyone needs to understand....there is sooo much money in these artificial sweeteners. They are NOT good for our bodies! Raw sugar grows from the earth, therefore eat it. Just eat it in moderation! Don't consume anything that is created in a lab! Rule to live by.

Avoid it at all costs.
In various countries around the world it banned, other countries put health warnings on products containing aspartame.
I do not knowingly consume it

Artificial sweeteners make me ill also. Headache and upset stomach. I would rather just have sugar than all the other chemicals.
