It depends on who the audience is, I think. I have heard about it - never seen it done - and I personally wouldn't do it because I think it's tacky. I'd rather my guest have even something edible that they can enjoy as opposed to a cheap scratch off ticket. Also, keep in mind that there are *some* people who will scrutinize your favors in relationship to everything else they think you spent on your wedding (from sizing up the flowers, decor, meal, etc) AND their gift, and they won't want to feel slighted by being handed a $1 favor. Is that the right attitude on their part? No, but I'm just being realistic and letting you know that someone might say, "gee, they sure spent a lot on these wedding favors!". And of course, you know that might be a large number of people since the odds of winning anything significant on those stupid tickets are like a gazillion to one.

Interesting....not sure how I feel about that. Cool idea I think. Just make sure your reception hall doesn't mind the mess of the silver scratch off stuff all over the tables! ;-)
I was just at a wedding last weekend, and the favors were a card with a note written on it that said "In lieu of favors, we have decided to donate the money it would have cost to the American Heart Association in memory of the bride's grandfather". I thought that was very classy and touching.

Its been done time and time again? Book a hotel room then give all the guests an evelope the one with the lucky envelope wins the night in a hotel for two! (Cost about the same when you add it up and who knows the bestman and bridesmaid might just click!)

I like the idea and think its pretty cool. chances ar someone would win at least something...even if it is just a small amount. I say go for it. as for the person who said that the wedding she went to the people donated money in honour of the grandfather instead of favours...thats pretty tacky. maybe they should have asked for donations to be made instead of gifts. its like saying spend money on us, but the money we whould have normally spend on you anways, we'll give to charity. thats pretty bad.

Chance of guests winning are small.
Nice thought, though.
Congratulations and every good wish!

That is a fantastic idea, and it would obviously make the guests remember your day more if they win.
Plus they may pay for your honeymoon!!

It's a great idea. I thought about the same thing, but it didn't really fit our theme.
