It is not cheap and nor is it flimsy. There are a lot of quality things if you like that modern style. Personally I agree with you it is gag a maggot. I love the rich ornamental style and they offer none of that. The store is for yuppies trying to seek a certain rich image of sleek and fashionable. I can do better at Cosco.

From my experience with IKEA stores in past 3-4 years only, one chair was broken, one bed I bought from them is not very comfortable and keep falling apart. All the other things are still in a very good condition. I would still buy from Ikea if the price is right, and if you buy something from Ikea be careful when you assemble it, some problems with Ikea furniture could be due to bad assembly.

Because most of people, unlike you, like modern stuff I guess...I like IKEA design for instance, and it can make your house look very nice, without spending much...it is not the best furniture to buy for life, but if you are a student or you stay somewhere temporarily then it really worths it. Now, if your are into grandfather clocks and old type furniture....then it is not your cup of tea...

They just opened a store in the Detroit area and I went to buy my 2 year old niece her first bed. A beadboard daybed that looked adorable. I was concerned about sturdiness because this kid is a wild thing. So I tested the bed in the store, all 210 lbs of me jumping on the bed. It passed.
Honestly, most of their products are pretty generic, and targeted to apartment dwellers. But if you do find something you like the pricing is good. They have some clever organizational items.
And ironically a lamp shade i bought broke when I tried to put it on the lamp. lol

Just like any store not everything is for everyone. The best thing to do when it comes to furniture is to go to the store and see the stuff in person. Some of there stuff might be cheap and made out of particle board. But some of there stuff is better quality and made out of solid wood.

Actually Ikea is higher quality than most people think, that is why it is so popular. My Kitchen was custom built by me with Ikea cabinets.

Personally, I love their stuff, the amount of space we save. I have 2 kids and the storage built into everyday furniture is invaluable to me. And their kids furniture and storage is brightly coloured and easy to use, my kids love it. My husband and I do plan to one day own different furniture and have already started collecting antiques, but for now in this stage of life, Ikea is great.

I agree - I went to the store in Atlanta - the quality is OK. It looks a little too generic and cold.
