I've had that happen to me. Take some time away from them, don't contact them, and get on with life.

Maybe in a few years after a few additional boyfriends/girlfriends, you'll be able to sit down with them and talk to each other, but the pain will be healed to the point that it won't really hurt any more.

Most importantly, keep everything platonic from now on. Don't get back together with them, as it'll just reopen that whole can of worms.

To me cheating isn't about the person your are with and how things are going with them it is about general respect for someone else and the only way you should stay friends is if you cheated too, first.

It happened to me once. The answer is not really. I still hear from her every now and then (happened about 10 years ago), but I still have a hard time respecting her after that. I don't feel motivated to go spend time with her.

of course not!! being friends with someone who has cheated on you defeats the purpose of friendship. but then again that depends on what your interpretation of friendship is and what it all means to you. i look for loyalty and trust in any relationship which is why i'd never be friends with someone who has clearly attested to being incapable of bearing the responsibility of friendship.

Cheating is soo overanalyzed in this society. Why is it called cheating anyway? We are mammals that are supposed to mate!! Cheat on whoever you want, forgive and forget, because it shouldn't matter...

no. thats just allowing for a truck load of emotional angst. better to make a clean break. its not like you have to be cold and mean, feel free to refrain from running in the opposite direction if you happen to bump into them in a public place. a "hi" will do nicely.

no, you can talk to the person though. The friendship would never be the same if the perosn cheated on you. So no and it would never be the same

It's a trust issue . . . if I can't trust someone--I don't want them for a friend.

It requires a lot of maturity and emotional intelligence to be honest. If those traits are lacking, why would you want to be friends.
