that's just how cats are. I have a spayed female who does nothing but eat and sleep all day. she is an indoor cat, most indoor cats are lazier than outdoor cats. she's not fat either.

I suggest you spend some time with your cat playing with him and introduce some cat nip, that will really perk him up. There are nice cat toys in any pet store and small dried leaves of catnip in bags. I think little toys first, soft toy mice is a good idea, on string. have you also considered introducing another cat for company? Sometimes this works, other times not.

Your cat won't live long if he is overweight and inactive. You really should put him on a diet. You will have to keep him inside while you have him on a diet, or he will prowl around a find food. He will need plenty of exercise though, what ever it takes to get him active, even if you do have to chase him around. Cats like to play so it shouldn't be hard to find ways to get him moving around. It will even be good for you also.

If the cat is not giving any signal that there is something wrong, everything is fine.
If you want to get him more active, give him less food (but this is like teasing him). First he'll come to you for it, later he'll start hunting.

He is not that way b/c he is nuetered. That is a myth that men use to try to not nueter their pets. Animals gain weight just like we do, bad diet and lack of excersise. Sometimes if the cat is declawed he may have developed premature arthritis in his paws and it hurts to run around.

get him some good quality low calorie cat food. (science diet is good) if he's been neutered, he's gonna get fat, it's an unfortunate side effect.... however, you'd rather have him alive and fat than dead cause he ran out looking for female cats....
