Sounds like you need to get a better idea about what things are like in those two countries.
And the way to make it not look like we made a mistake is simply for the nay-sayers to shut up and let the military finish the job.

We already look as if we made a mistake. This is from the final report to the president presented by the Commission on the Intelligence Capabilities of the United States Regarding Weapons of Mass Destruction
"We conclude that the Intelligence Community was dead wrong in almost all of its pre-war judgments about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction. This was a major intelligence failure. Its principal causes were the Intelligence Community's inability to
collect good information about Iraq's WMD programs, serious errors in analyzing whatinformation it could gather, and a failure to make clear just how much of its analysis was based on assumptions, rather than good evidence. On a matter of this importance, we simply cannot afford failures of this magnitude.
After a thorough review, the Commission found no indication that the Intelligence Community distorted the evidence regarding Iraq's weapons of mass destruction. What the intelligence professionals told you about Saddam Hussein's programs was what they believed. They were simply wrong."
The last two words there: SIMPLY WRONG answers your question...we can't look as if we didn't make a mistake

I think it is more honest to admit obvious mistake. It is also more useful than denial. Most of the planet knew anyway in advance that Afghanistan will be difficult to deal with, and that aggression against Iraq can be explained only by greed to oil and power. Americans who voted for this ‘president’ and used to support his course indeed made terrible mistake, on brink of a crime, if you think how many people died. Yet even if we’d want to brainwash whole world to make everybody think that everything was done right, I don’t think we’d be able to achieve this. People in Europe and many other parts of the world are less isolated and have access to wider information. Instead of lying, it is better to honestly face reality. This is a value by itself, to be honest and willing to learn. But also, if it is so important for some, it will be well understood by people from other countries, because everybody does mistakes (not everybody have guts to admit and learn).

It is not possible.
It is time to forget the past and look to the future.
We should have never gone there, but now that we are there we MUST fight until we can fight no longer.
We are in this mess and I don't want to hear 'peace with honor' like Mr. Nixon said when he withdrew our forces from Vietnam. At that time there was neither peace or honor. Only disgrace.
And I am a liberal, yella dog democrat from Texas.
I served my country during the Vietnam war. If I weren't too old I would be in Iraq right now.
I don't believe in this war any more than I believed in the Vietnam war but my country is my country and it is my obligation to support it - even when it goes against my grain.
Didn't mean to preach, but - heck - you asked.

We've have lots of people who've been characterized as the antichrist. Even President-elect Obama has been called that. I'm not so sure that the antichrist is a single person since the potential for evil is alive in all of us.

Getting out now we'll not solve the problem. Remember we got out the last time, which was over ten year ago, and look what happened. This time we should stick it out, until we finish the job, like we should have done the last time. Don't believe everything you hear on the news. I've talked to several guys who were over in Iraq and none of them regret going over there in helping, in fact many of them enjoyed handing out candy bars and beanie babies to the children.

We can't, unless we ADMIT to making a mistake, which I don't see Bush doing. We are going to quagmire this thing out until the next president makes some sound decisions as to what to do. As long as Bush is in offic there is nothing we can do. The world despises him, and it's gone to far to be able to change that.

I am not sure they needed a democratic nation, since they were not ready for it.
