I belive, that none of those came first... first there were cells, then those cells joined forces to created more powerful organisms. After the organisms were created, there was a big meteorite that hit the Earth, actually called "The big bang theory" (if I am not wrong). Then, new species emerged, there were a lot of animals that envolved from what they were, to another species... and somehow, there was an egg that made a chicken, but that egg had a mother, and that mother was a chicken who had come from an egg, and that egg also, had a mother, which was a chicken who came from an egg...........and so on, till you find where the heck did both of them come from.....interesting and exhausting...

The egg did. Chickens aren't the only ones that lay eggs, reptiles and earlier birds do too. And according to scientists, reptiles came before chickens, and therefore their eggs were here before.

chickens are birds,
birds evolved from dinosaurs,
dinosaurs laid eggs,
