which do you think would be more effective and beneficial for the United States in dealing with Mexico?

I agree with J D. Enforcement is the answer. Heavy fines and deportation (or prison time) for illegals AND those who hire them.

Amnesty is just forgiving them for committing a crime. We are a nation of laws. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. I know the penalty for illegally jumping the border into Canada can be up to 20 years in jail.

I don't see it being as cut and dry as that. The amnesty program will certainly benefit Mexico. Enforcement only would be Mexico's last choice. The solution is somewhere in the middle. We are talking about people and lives. Mexico needs to step up and take care of all of their citizens, and those that are here illegally will need to be identified and on a case by case basis be allowed to stay. The fence on the border will help curtail the flood coming over. Hopefully Mexico will begin to address their problems. I'm sure most of those people here working would rather be home with their own family's and communities.

As harsh as it sounds, amnesty doesn't work. Been there, done that and they still keep coming in. What most people don't realize is that it's not just Mexicans, but Panamanians, Costa Ricans, Venezuelans or any other country you can name south of the border.

What few Americans of the liberal mindset do not realize or refuse to recognize is that many of these people are not just here for the money, but for altering our political underpinnings. Many of these so-called refugees are Marxist in mentality and ideology and the more we let in, the more we allow our way of life to be undermined with the total destruction of the American way of life as their ultimate goal. Just do some investigation into some of the organizations they have founded after their illegal entry and you will have all the evidence you need of Marxist influence.

Further, America was founded as a primarily Protestant nation. Virtually every nation south of the US is Catholic and the influx of these refugees alters the religious (and by extension, voter) demographics of this nation as well. It happened in the northeast with the massive influx of Irish Catholics earlier in the 20th century and is being done once more through altering the demographics through the unlawful importation of Catholic Latin immigrants from all countries south of the US.

So you see, it's not just a matter of poverty. The Vatican has never gotten over the Protestant revolution and would like nothing more than a world of Catholics ruled ultimately from Rome. And because the Catholic Church shuns birth control within its congregation, the Latin followers of the Roman church have religious reasons to breed as fast as they do. Once a child is born in the USA they are an automatic citizen, whether the parents are or not - an issue that further muddies the waters on this issue.

Personally, I think that if you are here outside the madates of the law, that your children should be deemed illegitimate for citizenship as well. If measures to stop the flood are not taken, then you can say hello to Mex-America, because the USA is dying by attrition.

Consensus clearly leans towards enforcement, and I concur.

Historically amnesty has not worked, don't expect it ever will, unless it is very, very limited. Even then, some type of enforcement would still need to fit into the equation.

Good question, but don't think there is a real answer that will happen anytime soon.

NumbersUSA is pushing for enforcement only but not for rounding up all illegal aliens and deporting them. Rather, our plan is one of Attrition. Where illegal aliens can not get work, can not get government benefits, can not get drivers licenses or even legal IDs. Their children born here do not become legal citizens neither does getting married to a citizen make them legal citizens. In short, There is nothing here for them. They can't even make a living. This will make them want to leave on their own instead of us paying their way. It will also make those who would come, not. This is our plan. Never heard of it? that's because the government and the media don't want anybody to know about it. President Bush even lied about our plan when he made that speech in.......Where ever that was he just visited.....Chicago, was it? Our voice is being heard though. We are the reason the house passed their enforcement only bill. We are the reason the house is standing firm on not compromising with the senate. we are the reason for all this public testimony on immigration. Join us at numbersusa.com

I SO AGREE with most of your answers...OLDMAN, you are right! We need and enforcement and a punitive program, a harsh punitive program for corporations and business that hire illegals. But I believe they should also be deported. Let the employers of illegals pay big fines and let that money buy buses and airplanes for deportation....and deport them to the furthermost point possible so they will be reluctant to return!

I am almost amused by those who answer for amnesty and then insult "YOU FAT LAZY AMERICANS". Who do they think they are kidding with that? Those who come here illegally and spit in our faces after taking all our benefits should be deported first as examples!

Kick out the Mexicans so you can finally get to wash your dirty dishes , scrub your floors and pick you tomatoes in 100F heat.
Mexicans leave=US economy goes to recession.
I'd love to see it happening.
Ano Americans are so spoilt, you'd die if you have to work even one day a hard physically exhausting work. That's why you're so fat-you eat and poop instead of work!

They should implement a "shoot to kill" policy for anyone crossing our border illegially. I mean, why not? Because it's not humane? I'm sorry, when did America gain a conscience on humanity? Was it AFTER they pass out the small-pox blankets to the Indian?

No amnesty no matter what. I am sick of people taking advantage of our system and sucking our social services dry.
